max hit points at first level

roll 4 keep best three, and assign abilities as desired...

If you die or change characters, there's a 'level down' penalty.

ie. You roll up a character one level lower.

Feel free to use Gygax's Options & Skills.

Any member who isn't available for a game doesn't gain party x.p.s, and furthermore, other characters cannot benefit from their abilities (healing, etc.)

Fumbles and critical hits are automatic on a 1 or 20.

All experience is group experience.

There are never restrictions on character alignment...so roleplay away!

If you -as a player -have knowledge about a certain monster, then your character does as well -perhaps through stories overheard, direct experience, or etcetera.

So break out the torches for troll fighting...

Deepvision does not detect undead. (just as infravision doesn't)

Regarding firing into melee: If you miss your target, you re-roll to see if you hit a compainion, etc.

Once you use a magic weapon, you know its properties...

ie. It's a +1 sword.

As per moriarty777's Combat Dominance idea:

At 4th level, the fighter gains an extra attack when fighting opponents with half the fighter's hit dice or less. This extra attack may be directed to a different opponent as long as they are within reach and meet the hit die criteria. This ability improves as the fighter progresses in levels with an additional attack gained every four levels thereafter. Combat Dominance does not combine with the Extra Attack ability and cannot be applied to ranged weapons."

Ranger 'calm animal' ability as per Moriarty the Red (slightly tweaked):

...a Wisdom-based SIEGE check modified by the HD of the animal in question.
