Thursday Paranoia SIEGE (finished)
BTW- I made up a few little maps for your delectation this evening. You will not be surprised to hear that Paranoia disdains maps, and tactical play in general. It is all about the role play and cinematic craziness for them. So, don't take the map too seriously, and don't count squares to move and so on. Just wing it baby!
Needless to say, I made the map in maptools ver 1.39, then I thought, hmmmm. So, we may have to update to 1.39 (we have not had any problems with it). (players can just webstart from 1.39 but it may be a bit trickier for Spak-man. Also, 1.39 messes with the position of all the tables on the screen, so you need to set it to taste when you first start it
Or, maybe a 1.39 campaign works in 1.35?
As for the game itself, we start the actual module today. We begin with you all in an anonymous (black painted*) corridor. Lying around your feet are the bodies of 5 green armored "Vulture" guards, whose noble task is to keep Alpha Complex safe from commies, mutants, and other undesirables.
As you look up from the smoking carnage of a few moments before, another platoon of green clad guards comes around the corridor. These are armored with proper Green reflec armor ( red laser not so good here) and are armed with Cone Rifles and Plasma Disaggregator 3000**s (i.e. certain death)
"Why are you standing, weapons drawn, while the smoking carnage of our brother guards surround you citizen? "
(And none of that "some guys jumped the guards...I think they went thataway" malarkey )
"We are here to arrest you for high treason. Please follow us to the Termination Centre"
*- you remember about the black paint, I hope, citizen?
**- Yes, I just made that name up

After you presumably surrender to the overwhelming force in front of you, you are taken to a holding cell at the nearest Termination centre, along with the workers at the paint shop.
(Now that you think about it, one of the paint shop workers, the one that was typing your names into the computer, is not with the group)
Each holding cell has multiple chairs. On each chair is the following flyer
So You're Having a Termination
Greetings, citizen!
Wonderful News. You are scheduled for termination. The Computer thanks you for your cooperation.
To serve you better, the Computer has conveniently located Termination points near both the residential and industrial sections of Alpha Complex.
No more annoying waiting for days in holding cells for your scheduled appointment! And no more long walks to be terminated after a long day of work! Prompt terminations are the future for Alpha Complex. The Computer has listened to your concerns about Termination and provided a solution
All Hail the computer
Please keep all crying and blubbering to a minimum while awaiting termination. Remember, the citizens who help the Computer at the Termination Centres are just doing their best to help the computer, just like you (did)

Yes, that was fun. Of course, the destruction of the scrub bot was classic Paranoia.
You guys did well with the various banging-head-against-bureacracy problems. But now I have you all paranoid about equiptment lists, and destroying Computer property, and covering innocent floors in petroleum jelly.
We may be about 1/2 way through the module, so maybe done next week? These things always take longer than I think though, plus the end combats etc. will probably take longer. Maybe 2 sessions.
For next session, remind yourselves with a quick read through of the messages sent today (drug interactions and possible secret society motivations). I definitely can not keep track of them all in my head so you guys have to be a bit obvious with it, and sort of police your manias yourselves
One thing Spak man pointed out is I missed some /w messages. And I definitely did. From the player perspective, it all seems pretty slow with a message from the DM every so often, but in the DMs little chat window, at certain crucial junctures, the little /ws were wizzing by so fast I missed some
Not a bad idea to remind me before the game of the one's that I missed to set us up for the upcoming "event"
Onward comrades...er...I mean citizens
Hey! Vatch vere you pointing zat zing, ve are technizuns!

A bit of bad news from the spakman front. I won't be able to make the game this thursday Its my Sons Birthday on the 14th so we're going out for supper and what not and im pretty sure we won't make it back in time for the game. I know Adaen mentioned he might be late, so I was thinking that we could swap over to Wednesday this week, if that's alright with everyone. If not Ill have to bite the bullet and miss this weeks session, Ill set up the servers for you guys, but I wont be there to watch them if anything goes wrong, so have a back up plan ready
either way let me know

I think it's next week we are switching to Wednesdays for the Fall term anyway.
The problem with wednesday this week is, I think Adaen said he was away on business but _might_ make Thursday, but probably not. I assume if we switch to Wednesday, he would be definitively excluded.
I can go either way, play this Wed (and all Weds for the next few months) 6-9, or skip this week.
Whatever happens, I think we will be finished Paranoia in one or two sessions. Treebore's Shadowrun was bandied about as next.
We should be clear if that is next, so whoever is next can be ready to go.
Also, Adaen and Jared should be aware that they are more than welome to run something as DM for a 6 week slot. Or, they can choose to just be a player if they wish

Also, I have come up with a few house rules for your amusement. First up: Grenades
Here's my idea. Pick a target, roll to hit as normal. If you "hit", all is well. If you miss. for every 2 pts you miss the TN (target number) you are 1 square off your target.
Now here is the fun part. If you miss, you then roll a d12. The number corresponds to the hours on a clock, 12 being north.
So if you need an 18 to hit, and your roll+bonuses totals a 14, you missed by 2 squares. Roll a d12. You roll a 6. the grenade landed 2 squares directly south of the target.
Watch out if you roll a 2!
(if you roll a "1" the grenade does not explode)
Sound...amusing?

Generally, our games last 4-6 weeks. Whatever it takes to run a "module" equivalent.
There is no need for you to make a module. If the game you want to run has pre-made modules that is fine.
I know I would like to play some classic old style AD&D modules in C&C
But any way, someone runs, then a new game and DM comes in. Then the next game, and so on.
I get the feeling Paranoia modules are not built to last a long time. As I said, I think we are almost halfway through the module, so a few more sessions. If your clones live that long!
we keep a list of our games in this thread

The first message there lists the games we have done, and possible future games
If you have an idea for a game, post the idea and I'll add it to the list. As you can see in that thread, we are presently puzzling over Spak_Man's Small town, Small troubles

I/we can play Wed, should be no problem.
We also looked at my daughters schedule and "re learned" that she has late nights on Monday and Wed, so we do NOT need to move Thursday to Wed.
Only my Monday night game still needs to move to Tuesday.

..................Message Begins
Mission Report
Agent Vund-R-Bar reports:
All hail the Computer. May it guide our lives forever!
This morning, we received news that citizen Johnie B-Good has been promoted in expectation of the glorious success of the Mark IV project. Soon, we can put all of our defence in the hands of machines such as these, rather than the less than trustworthy [redacted]
Also, we were advised that, as our clone schools are on summer break, citizens are encouraged to help with the education of our future citizens. The Computer says that the children really are our future. It is good to know someone is thinking of the children.
In addition, we received from the Computer's generous bounty, a healthy daily dose of Pleasantine, to calm our nerves, and allow us to better serve the Computer. I seem to have endured my dose well enough, but it has made Aft-R-Shave very fidgety, and his left eye rolls around as though of its own volition. He keeps his hand on his issued laser at all times. Pep-R-Mint has begun muttering of demons persecuting him, and mentions that they have red eyes. Thank you, friend Computer!
After I singlehandedly rebuffed an assault from a crazed scrub bot [further information classified] we received a visit from a techician squad. I thought their visit appropriate, given that during the battle with the nefarious scrub bot the Mark IV suffered [very redacted!]. However, Mem-R-Ex and Aft-R-Shave were suspicious of their legitimacy. Their paperwok checked out, but Mem-R-Ex and Pep-R-Mint were still not convinced. So they drew their lasers and started shooting.
I wasn't sure who the commies were in the bunch, so I took a few shots at the technicians, and a few at Pep-R-Mint and Mem-R-Ex. Just to be safe. The technicians held their authorizations above their heads and yelled "we have authorization! We have authorization!". The technicians made it to the access ladders Mark IV had helpfully lowered for them, and began to climb up. The first one to the top ran into Aft-R-Shave, with his twitchy eye and jumpy disposition. He gave the oncoming technician a laser blast to the face. A smoking husk clattered down beside me at the foot of the Mark IV. The rest of the technicians ascended various ladders, with us in pursuit. A couple of them were making for the entry hatch to the Mk IV's command module. Thinking to forestall this, Pep-R-Mint pulled one of our newly found grenades, pulled the pin, and threw. That pin flew 50, maybe 80 paces. The grenade, unfortunately, dropped at his feet. I don't know if the explosion killed Pep-R-Mint, or the fall. I leave that question for the scrub bot who mopped him up and squeezed his remains into a jar.
With Pep-R-Mint down, I sprang into action. Aft-R-Shave, Puck-R-Up and Mem-R-Ex were engaged in various wrestling matches with three technicians between the outer and inner hatch door. Two technicians had already made it inside the command module and had locked the door. Various grinding and banging noises came to us from the command module. The Mark IVs voice took on a slow, slurred intonation. Aft-R-Shave knowing that time was of the essence, and being insane, managed to get two fingers free on his belt while being grappled and pulled the pin from a grenade. A bright flash enveloped us as the "flare" illuminated the hatch.
This proved a sufficient distraction and we managed to wrestle free of the technicians and open the hatch (after the application of a few more grenades-Whee!). Inside, a technician lay prone in a far hatch and lobbed grenade shells at us with a grenade launching rifle, while the technician leader seemed to be pulling [redacted] and other gear from the Mark IV's [redacted]
Tag= Archive Material:Video. Red Clearance and above. Viewing above your clearance can be fatal. Have a wonderful day!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xOEJ-Vu ... re=related
We got past the rifleman and rushed the commie leader, but the scoundrel vanished into thin air. One minute, I was bravely trying to wrap my hands around his commie neck, and the next he was gone, right out of the hatch. So he is a _mutant_ commie! Figures
Needless to say we were all a bit on edge after that (Except Pep-R-Mint. He was not "on edge". More "on puddle"), so we all took a double dose of Pleasantine to calm us.
After awhile, we heard a hatch from the hangar opening. Looking down, We saw a teacher bot and 15 or so little charges in different coloured small jumpsuits. Some of our future leaders were down there. tiny clones are great.
Unfortunately, as the teacher bot began to give a speech to her charges regarding the Mark IV and the glorious future it will guarantee for Alpha Complex, they decided they had had enough of speeches (and more than enough sugar candies) and tore off in all different directions around the hangar. Towards the mysterious dark tunnels, towards the pools of petroleum jelly, towards the open box of our assigned grenades, and most worryingly, towards the Mark IV
Knowing our mission goals, most of us zipped down the rails of the access ladders to head the kids off. Mem-R-Ex seemed to be looking around slyly as the rest of us debarked, perhaps waiting for an opportunity to [redacted] or even [redacted!]. This did not sit well with Aft-R-Shave, who had also not debarked to head off the kids, and who seemed to have inserted a few Pleasantine tablets directly up his nostrils. He was breathing raggedly and his left eye was rolling around like a ball bearing.
"Down you go citizen", he said to Mem-R-Ex.
"Oh, after you citizen. Age before beauty after all."
"Age bef-what?" replied Aft-R-Shave, befuddled
"Mark IV, tell the Computer I want to report a communist attack on the Mark IV!", snarled Aft-R-Shave and drew his laser. Whether through discretion or a bad twitch, he promptly fired into the ceiling of the hatch, causing no damage (except to his pride)
"I also wish to report a communist attack", piped up Mem-R-Ex
"You _are_ the communist!", Aft-R-Shave said.
"Am not", Mem-R-Ex said and jumped through the hatch back into the command module. Aft-R-Shave followed, calling for the Mark IV to inform The Computer that the Mark IV was under attack by communists. The Mark IV responded by sealing all hatches in the vehicle (locking both Aft-R-Shave and Mem-R-Ex inside the Mark IV) and advising the Computer to dispatch a Vulture Commie Elimination/Wall Paint Protection Unit to the Mark IV hangar.
The rest of us were trying as hard as we could to round up the children who, although they are our future, may also prove to be our demise if we are not fast enough.
As to the other matter, my suspicions have fallen on [extremely redacted] for treasonous behaviour, although recent events have certainly added [supremely redacted] to the list.
As always, the Computer's success is our success! Suffering means love, from the Computer!

That way we can get right into 3 hrs of gaming terror...I mean gaming fun. Hopefully wrap it up tonight but depends how far we get.

Hello All,
Sorry I missed last session. I didn't get home until well into the session (crazy work travel/Evil Newark Airport Workers delayed me). On top of that I had some connectivity problems.....so I just went to bed.
The session sounds like it was stellar (I read the quotes, you filthy Commie's!)
Talk to you all later.
Best,
