Seeking a game

Post by Heavy_Crossbow »

Hello. I'm a long time watcher, first time poster.

Anyway, I've grown quite desperate for a Castles and Crusades group. My friends are all busy this time of year, so I find myself left alone, without a game.

I'm pretty hardcore when it comes to gaming. I mean, I've played almost every game, but I'm relatively new to C&C. I've had the books for about four months. I've run about 15 sessions of C&C, but I've only played in about 1, so I'm looking to play in a campaign as opposed to running one. I might be persuaded to run, though.

I'm on pretty much every evening after 3pm.

I'm actually planning on running a C&C game via Maptool, most likely Sunday evenings at 6:30 or perhaps 7 pm EST. One glitch i've run into though -- Skype. I've got Vista on my PC, installed Skype, and my operating system went all funny on me. So, I'm thinking I'd rather use Yahoo IM for the voice chat/cam. i've never had a significant problem w/ Yahoo's chat.

Vista is really bugging me though. Anyone else have this problem? Or know if XP users running Maptool will cause my system to crash when they connect to my Vista machine? it happened to me at home yesterday, but i think that was all Skype-related.

I was planning on just running A1, Blacktooth Ridge. I've also got some house rules, which i guess everyone does. i do want to get rid of hit points and subdual damage, and replace it with a simpler mechanic which reflects a decrease in performace with each increase in damage. i'm finetuning this rule change now, but it might need further refinement as we go along.

If Blacktooth isn't acceptable, i've also got loads of stuff from old Dungeon mags. One thing i'd love to run is their last adventure path from Paizo - the Isle of Dread thing. It's much more narrative, somewhat 'railroadey' but just an awesome story with lots of NPC portraits, great handouts, and some nasty plot twists.

I used SKYPE with MAptools lastnight, after the recent 22 MBYTE SKYPE upgrade, and had no problems. I also have all the updates for VISTA installed as well.

Wish I could play with you guys, but I am in enough games already.

Another frequent poster around the Trolls also uses XP and Skype. He has never had any issues with running both along with maptools. Not sure if it actually is a compatibility issue ziltmilt and he has been lucky, or the problem is on your machine in particular.

That being said though, Tree, you do have a lot of problems with Skype getting dc all the time, or is that an Internet issue and not necessarily a software clash?

L.S.

Good luck in the finding a game Heavy Crossbow. My new c&c FR game begins next week, which is pretty full now, but if any spot opens, I'll let you know.

I use skype and XP. Used to be a bit techno sounding, but better now. No other problems

Tree's issues have to do with a narrow DSL pipe and 5 computers at his house, most collecting WOW gold at any given time, I'm thinking

Well, that adventure path is not what I would call "old" but there is some really good stuff in those mags. That Savage Tide adventure path sounds really interesting. Who wouldn't like a game with pirates, dinosaurs, demons, and pirates!

I've got Vista as well, and there have not been compatibility issues between the two listed at all at Microsoft.

Likewise with maptool and SKYPE; they are both compatible programs without reported glitches.

I'd uninstall/re-install, as it can only be a problem with the download or your computer.

Voice-chat really is an experience you need to have for roleplaying.

Sorry about the inactivity. Just got the new Call of Duty. Zombie-Nazi mode has proven to be quite addictive.

Anyway, I'm using a Mac. Could Yahoo instant messenger work? If not, what other ways are there?

Everyone is chattering about Skype, and I have to say, it's definitely the best option. It works great on my Mac (as does MapTool, another popular program around here), and provides a much better experience than text-chatting, e-mail and so forth.
