Tin... I forgot about the Tin... Does anyone have any ideas what this is? Magical? Healing properties?
As no one spoke, I'll hold on to the daggers. I check them over to determine if they are better than (or as good as) the one I've got. If so, I'll make one of them my ready dagger and put mine in my pack, or offer it to the other folks for use..... One dagger on ankle, one on belt....
I assume at the end, we'll determine the value of all we find, and re-allocate items / coinage based on value....
I keep assuming coinage divided equally for now. Total coinage found so far by my reckoning:
Platinum: 4
Gold: 32
Silver: 81
One of you cary the locket? Does the woman look familiar to anyone?

Faran looks at the old book but doesn't know anything about the symbols. "I would almost say it's a kind of writing but it seems too complicated. Who would take the trouble to write like this?"
"I guess this is the chest that the merchant is looking for. I suppose the woman in the locket is his wife? Should we bring this back now or continue exploring? We got what we came for."

Oh yeah, that's why we came here, isn't it.... Guess we're not supposed to plunder his treasure, or did he say we could keep what we find in the box?
Well, we ARE here, and I think we're all pretty healthy and I don't think that we have any resource issues....
I am concerned about this many Goblins being so close to the trade route and our village, so I think we should try to get a little more information if we can....

"The merchant said we can keep 25% of whatever money belongs to him. That doesn't look like a whole lot but we got some from the goblins. I say we bring the box back right away. It's obviously dear to the merchant because it belonged to his former wife and I'm sure he'll want it back as soon as possible. We can come back here tomorrow and investigate the rest of the buildings."
When you look outside the building you don't see any goblins or anything else. Do you head back to town?

You leave the ancient fort and make your way home without incident. The merchant has recovered somewhat from his experience and when you enter the pub he looks positively gleeful. When you show him the box he says, "Yes, this is it. This is the box that my Gertrude prized so much." After looking through it, he picks out 1 platinum piece, 10 gold, and 5 silver and gives them to you.
"Thank you so much for retrieving this for me. It means so much more than the oil and sugar I was carrying. If you ever come to Eseburne (the major town north of your village), please look me up. You will be welcome in my home."

"I agree. Let's take a good rest at home and then leave nice and early tomorrow morning. Bring something to eat while at the fort. I suspect we'll need all the strength we can get."

The three of you get a good night's rest and the next day you meet at the pub. Most people are out in the fields so there are very few people in the pub at this time of day. The musician is asleep in the corner where he usually sleeps (he has a house; he just doesn't go there) and the owner of the pub is checking barrels of beer. Faran gives you each an apple from his house and you set off.
After an uneventful walk you arrive at the scene of the attack. There are many ants crawling around the sugar and drowning in the oil. The fort doesn't look any different from the road than it did yesterday.
What's the plan?

"Looks like the forest is doing it's part to clean up this mess...."
I do a quick circuit of the area to see if anyone has been by since we've been there...
"The goblins are probably expecting us to return. Let us continue on the road for a little ways, then approach the fort from a different angle.
What do you guys think?
What would you do if you were the goblins? Bug out of set ambushes? They can't have been here long....
"
"And from here on out, I'll scout ahead..."

There are a few stands of trees here and there but the landscape is mostly plains with a few very low hills. No appears to have passed by since the day before but your village is not on any major trade route. A trader stops into your village about once or twice a week to sell and buy. You are, I'm afraid, country bumpkins.
Faran speaks. "There is only one entrance to the fort. Well, two including the smashed in wall, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to walk up the hill a different way."
Don't forget to add a hit point if you were injured.

You carefully make your way up to the front of the fort, dodging this way and that to avoid any surprise arrows. Luckily, there appears to be nobody on guard. You now stand in front of the fortress. Do you enter? And which entrance do you take? The originally entrance with the gates knocked down or the hole in the wall you went through before?

Faran agrees.
You cautiously head through the seige-made hole in the wall and walk the twenty feet or so to the large building on the east side of the fort. The building is forty feet long north to south and twenty feet wide. At either end of the building are single doors that are shut. Evenly spaced along each long wall are three windows that are boarded up tight. (This is building 8 on the map).
I will assume you are standing near the southern door.
