Faran
"Maybe we will get lucky and this is where the ancient commander of this fort kept all his monies. Or maybe there is a lovely, young, extremely grateful princess being held captive in there." Faran shakes his head to clear his mind. "But probably there is just a fortune in dust waiting for us."

The door creaks open ("Should have brought oil" says Faran jokingly) and you cautiously enter the musty building. Except for a bit of dust stirred up by the opening door, all is still. It takes a minute for your eyes to adjust to the very dim light. Eventually you can see that the walls are lines with shelves and racks. On the shelves are leather military helmets that have rotted badly. Also on the shelves are rusty, useless shields. On the racks are spears and polearms that seem to be in a little better condition than the other equipment. Possible they were oiled but despite this they are probably too weak to be of any use.
"If there was a princess," says Faran, "she probably got out hundreds of years ago. Look at the weapon designs. I haven't seen this sort of thing before. I wonder how old this fort is and who built it."

There is no paperwork or other things that would help you recognise who built the place. Although villagers' stories differ on who built it, it is generally agreed that the original inhabitants of the land left before your people came. Or, your people drove out the original inhabitants. You wonder where the original peoples may have gone or if there are any left alive.
You don't see anything the goblins might be interested in. They probably didn't even try to get into this building. Possibly the other buildings provided enough room for their activities.

Faran
Faran keeps one eye on Orvyn as he runs to the next building and one eye on the courtyard to see if anything comes out to attack.
"There must have been more than two goblins that attacked the maerchant. I wonder why the rest of them aren't coming out to attack us. It's not like we've been very quiet."

When you reach the building and try to listen at the window you hear loud sounds from inside. There is a scraping sound, a bang, and then what might have been a little yelp. It wasn't right next to the window but you are not sure how far away. There is definitely someone or something inside that knows you are there.
Well, my bright idea is out the window. Well, maybe in the window.
I think next time I'll start with my sword out.....
I've really got to prep better with signals and the like....
I look back at the lads, point towards the inside of the building, pantamime a big bang (almost clap hands together, then lift em up and to the side), and then shrug.....
Maybe I bang on the door, and if many baddies, I run to the side (east, toward the big building, away from the tower), given the lads a clear shot and them coming out the door.... Depending on how many, turn and attack after the Faran & (sorry, too tired to look up name, or come up with a decent plan....)

Faran
Faran runs to the building in a crouch, hoping to avoid any missle fire that might come his way. Luckily, none does. He stands up straight when he gets to the door.
"Why don't you pop in front of that window and start shooting arrows while our friend casts a spell? Once the spell is cast I will run in and start smashing things up."

Ok, maybe no jumping.... I drop my pack (keeping weapons, of course) and pull out a couple of arrows and nock one.... Once the divine pair is ready, I risk a quick, stealthy glance to see what might be waiting (ballista pointing at the window vs an available target.)
When I get a sense of what is there, assuming nothing ballista like pointing at the window, I start shooting.... Once I run out of targets / folks are too intermingled, I rush in to attack.

From your glances into the building, you can see that at the back of the building there is a table turned on its side and behind this are two, possibly three goblins with bows. It will be difficult to hit them with missile weapons from the front.
Roll for initiative and say what action you want to take.

Psst, guys, 2-3 goblins with bows behind a barricade....
I'm going to see if there is a side window so I can flank them. If you hear a bowshot.... If you can think of any other plan -- something to get you to them without being shot....
I go to the left and peer around the corner of the building, paying special attention to the tower for any Goblins.... If I don't see any, I carefully look if there is a window that might give me a flanking shot....
If so, Flanking shooting.
If not, I return back....

Faran agrees with the plan. He pushes down on the door latch and flings the door open as he steps back out of the way. As he does so, an arrow comes flying out of the doorway and across the courtyard. There are shouts of anger from the goblins.
Orvyn looks around and sees that although no window will give him a flanking position, he will have a better chance of hitting them with an arrow because the table is directly in front of the goblins and he is off to their side now. You can see that there are three goblins. The one in the middle doesn't appear to have a bow but the other two do.
Will you start firing at the goblins while Faran and Aldwyn march in and start smashing things up? If so, roll for initiative.

Initiative Order
Goblin 1
Faran, Goblin 2, Goblin 3 (simultaneous attacks, I guess)
Orvyn
Aldwyn
Goblin 1 (the leader) doesn't have a missle weapon so he stands between the other two goblins and grimaces. Faran runs in to attack Goblin 3 (on the right). Goblins 2 and 3 shoot at him but both arrows luckily go wide of their mark. In fact, Goblin 2 (on the left) breaks his bow string. Faran reaches the table and swings his mace overhand at Goblin 3. It misses the goblin and smashes a large hole in the overturned table.
Orvyn, your turn.

Luckily, your bow does not break but your arrow flicks backwards, narrowly missing your right eye. The spellcaster misses his intended target and now the leader of the goblins is ready to attack. This goblin has a number of feathers and other items woven into his grimy hair and his loincloth appears to be made of the fur of some exotic animal. In both hands he has daggers that look to be of fine quality. He tries to stab Faran with both of these knives. He thrusts both weapons at Faran's arms as he is pulling his mace out of the table but he misses with one while the other is stopped by Faran's armour. Faran gets the mace free and decides that maybe the dagger-wielding goblin is the most dangerous. He swings the mace behind him and brings it down overhead. He narrowly misses the goblin leader and smashes another piece out of the table.
The second goblin drops his ruined bow and pulls a short sword. He stabs at Aldwyn but his hurried changing of weapons causes him to be clumsy and the thrust goes wide. The third goblin also drops his bow and pulls a short sword. Again, the hurried stab misses its target (Faran) and the goblin curses.
Orvyn and then Aldwyn.
(Sorry for the delay; our school had its annual festival)
