Traveller Thursdays: Tarsus, World Beyond the Frontier

Post by CKDad »

OK, formal kick-off time!

The game: Traveller, using Mongoose Traveller rules

Setting: Tarsus, District 268, The Spinward Marches, in the aftermath of the Fifth Frontier War ("Classic Era")

Game time: Every other Thursday, beginning 8/20, 9 PM EST

Software: Maptools / Skype (details to follow)

In a nutshell - the PCs are all veterans (or survivors) of the Fifth Frontier War who are somewhat at loose ends in the post-war demobilization. One of your acquaintances hails from Tarsus, just beyond the Imperial border, and is headed home in response to an urgent message from her family, and has asked you to come along to help.

I'm inclined to generate characters during the first session to take advantage of the Connections and Life Events in MGT, but feel free to float your general concept here!

How long were you looking to run this for?

We'll see how it goes. The game will have to shut down for the month of November (traveling for work for three weeks, then Thanksgiving), so I'm going to aim for some sort of decent episodic ending in late October. If there's interest in ramping it back up after that, we'll see.

Sounds like roughly 4 to 6 weeks, or "episodes". So that would fit in well with the Thursday Irregulars if we are willing to do alternating weeks with a different game.

The "Irregulars" are the weekly group that plays different RPG's on a roughly 6 week rotating basis.

So I will have to see if the members are willing to do alternating weeks with Traveller again.

I've had a couple of bites from the Citizens of the Imperium forum as well. I'm shooting for a max of 6 or so players, BTW.

Going to have to push this back a week (to 8/27) due to work issues.

If you can push it back to the week after that the Thursday Irregulars can play, 3 of us at least. Jarred, Aramis, and myself. Won't know about the others until Thursday.

The reason being is our current game should wrap up on the 27th.

That sounds good. I'll push the grand kick-off back two weeks then.

I've got three people interested from the CotI board, so I'll probably call this closed for the moment.

OK, John, we wrapped up our western game tonight, so we are on starting next week for Traveller. There are 4 irregulars who would like to play. How many guys from the other board are signed up?

Plus how do you wish to do character creation?

My youngest son and I are running Star Wars SAGA on your off weeks.

Sounds good Robert. I have two other players from CotI, so that should make six, which is a good size.

I'll get the MapTools server specifics worked out this weekend.

I don't Know if the plan was to start tonight or not, but I might not be able to make it if we are starting. My sister just got back from BC and we are having her over for dinner tonight, so depending on what time she leaves at I might be late or not able to make it at all.

Understood. I'll start the server up and if anyone can make it, we'll at least get started with characters for whomever can make it.

If it helps I like playing Marine types, and I like to retire out. I should be able to sign on right at 6, but will have to leave soon for our last night out.

Hey CKDad

I don't think we know your skype name to call you, or join your call. What is the name of the maptools server you have set up?

(in case you were wondering where we were)

So, the best-laid plans and all that.

Minor family crisis took me off-line for the evening. Good news is that no one (else) is in the hospital, jail, etc. Sorry I didn't let you guys know last night, but it was 10 PM before I broke free and was pretty spent at that point.

I'm thinking this is not gonna go. Sorry, gents.

I want to do it, but am relatively suddenly not in a position to be able to commit to being available at specific times. It's just that when I first planned this, I didn't have two family members cycling in and out of the hospital. That and another unanticipated time sink look to be playing hell with my schedule for a while. These things have all erupted in the last 10 days or so, and it's not clear when they're going to clear up.

Anyway, enough whining from me. Thanks for showing the interest, folks.
