Seeking a Vanilla Fantasy PbP Game
As you build characters, just go with a reasonable equipment list. I'll tweak if needed, and before we start add a magic item or three to your lists since by 5th level, most folks find a treasure or two with some magic goodies.

Sweet! We now have a full roster of players...
John, you can play two characters if you want to, but by all means stick with one if you prefer.
If you didn't catch page 1, the rolling up characters notes are there, abuot halfway down, ignore the first shorter one that states to go with 11000 xp, go with the later one at 22000 xp.
My ideal idea is that the party is already formed and has adventured together at least a little, b/c in my (admittedly limited) experience, role-playing first meetings and such on PbP can take weeks/months and that's prolly less fun.
I'm leaning towards the party starting out in Tharkus somewhere, heading out of a wilderness area towards a mid to large city, travel weary, wounded from some adventure, and looking to rest and recharge a little before adventuring on. Perhaps this latest thing they did was like a side-track to some greater quest, perhaps to deliver something to the leadership in Zvard, or to find something in the ruins of Mount Vhotar and return it to the king of Tharkus.... (there's a link to a map somewhere on page 1 or 2)
or something.
But All y'all please feel free to work out backgrounds together and suggest a quest and all that, i have several hooks to present as options.

So its me (I'm Keith by the way), AslanC (sorry, don't know your 'real' name), John (Sir Seskis) and Pat (Moriarty) playing five PC's (a cleric, a weapon master, a wizard, a ranger and one other) if I count it right. With Bill CKing.
And we need to work out a viable backstory that sees us in Tharkus somewhere to begin with.
Anyone have any bright ideas?
I can tell you that the PCs I'm playing are teamed up, as in the cleric, Issimene Jaspers, is being chaperoned by the WM, Mot of Kleio - and an odd couple they do make. As Mot is oath-bound to protect Issiemene until she has concluded her task, she is basically calling the shots. Except at this stage, she is all out of ideas and leads as to where her quest should take her next. If any of you have PCs with a goodly charisma and a convincing set of non-materialist reasons for heading somewhere, Issimene is in. Failing that, she will suggest a trip to Freeman's Point to find and consult with a lost Elder of her faith (Oddmund Gennva) known to have started a mission there years ago.
Before all that though, perhaps we'd better return the Glove of Tarynn to the Bog-Town guildmasters and claim our reward?

If you all want to use the equipment packs from the Gencon tourney pregens to speed things, up, by all means do that, or feel free to make alist from starting coin and such.
i'm not huge on encumbrance rules, but may pull a hackmaster and randomly do encumbrance audits if it looks like too much stuff.

Hey guys -
I have 2 characters rolled and ready to go:

Recently they left to look for other adventures, advertising their services as a 2-for-one package of Magic & Might (they are willing to take a single share of party loot to split between them as long as Tolmas has opportunity to keep selected arcane objects and finds).

Looks cool John!
Good theme, Flash and Smash. that's fun.
I'll make a list of goodies for you two.
Pat, the suspense is killing me! what character are you rolling?
Everyone, please give each PC 12+d12 gp and twice that much sp and 50+d6 cp
I figger since they're all adventuring already I'll set everyone slightly wounded at like 55+2d10% of max hp.

Ok,
I may push back our start date to sometime between Sat and Mon because I have some freelance work to complete this week that must take precedence. It depends on how much I get done tonight. Pat, I'm sure you won't mind a delay for this...
http://www.freeyabb.com/trolllordgames/ ... s&p=156395
Also, it's only fair to allow Aslan (It's Andy, right?) to finish his character since he started this all! LOL.
Pat, need your character too.
If anyone can make it to the society chat this Friday, we can all brainstorm backgrounds and such, but if not I think Keith got the ball rolling earlier in this thread.
John, I still need to complete your character goodies....
um... anything else you can think of that you all need from me?
This is probably the hard part (famous last words) and then it should be easy enough to post once every 2 days, I suppose.

No it's not ever under and circumstances Andy
Now then, yeah Pat and I were in Society Chat last night and I still have to make my character.
Sorry about that, just knee deep in writing and haven't made him yet.
I will though, honest
Anyone got a link to a character generator?

My bad.
is it Andrew, or am I just way way off? (wouldn't be the first time)
Until you tell me otherwise, it's "Elvis"

Aiming for Wednesday.... Monday if Possible
Hi all!
So the party is:
Issemine the Cleric
Mot Weapon Master (basically a tweaked Kensai)
Tolmas the Wizard
Reynar the Monk
Pat's Rogue/Illusionist
Elvis' Ranger
I think this is pretty well balanced.
If you get a chance, Let's try to get ready for Monday if we can. Once the characters are done, we can all finish brainstorming some backstory (not war and peace, but a breif clue) and I'll finish off equipment lists and maybe we can start... Monday? Wednesday is more likely since I won't have much free time this weekend, but still maybe.
And if we're not ready for Wednesday... we'll start later.

So... is this thing starting today / tonight? I've just got a couple of tweaks to do on the character (early afternoon) and I'm ready. Character will be forwarded soon.
Haven't really done C&C via play by post before so how will things like combat work out?

Very carefully.
in my admittedly limited experience, it's usually easier if the CK rolls everything, or if you all love rolling dice as much as I do, we can do honor system or just post 20 rolls and I'll go thru them in order. frankly, that sounds like a pain in my ass, so I'm leaning towrad me rolling everyrhing and posting results.
prolly try something like this, roll inititaive and determnine order, ask you waht you go to kill, resolve... lather, rinse repeat.
sometimes the Ck has to make assumptions so the pbp format doesn't make a 4 hit encouter take 3 weeks.
I may not be ready with equipment lists and such by tonight, sorry guys, but I'm now aiming for Friday.
On the other hand, we can start with the intro role play schpiel part and get rolling sans equipemnt and such for a day or threee if everyone's ready and cool wiht that.
I have a hook, then several options for where to go from there, so there are several options for y'all, not one plot i really really want you to do since I didn't prepare anything else, in case you were worried.

I'm uh... still doing my character.
Had to run errands earlier today so I didn't get it done. But stats are rolled... race is chosen... determined which of the two classes is my main class. I realized that 22,005 does *NOT* make this character a level 5 character (not surprising for a MC character). And with 4d4 hitpoints... my character is very fragile and can't wear armor.
Note to self... never put yourself in the front lines.
Question regarding spells... do I chose and if so how many given my 4th level Illusionist ability?
Oh... and I think I saw something about you handling magical equipment?
I'm just selecting my other equipment and filling out the rest of the char sheet right now.

Name: Sir Osric of ???
Race: Human
Class: Knight
Level: 5
XP: 22,005
Str: 13
*Dex: 10
Con: 16
Int: 12
Wis: 14
*Cha: 16
HP: 50
AC: 7
Racial Abilities: None
Class Abilities: Birthright Mount, Horsemanship, Inspire, Embolden, Demoralize,
Equipment: Bastard Sword, Short Sword, dagger, Large Shield (Kite), Plate Mail, Light Warhorse, Generic Adventurer Pack A, Helmet, various personal effects including signet ring of family.
Background: Sir Osric is the third son of a moderate noble of Tharkus (?/ Need city name as well), he is still young in his early 20s and has set out for adventure and to spread his name and earn his place in the legends.
At least thats how he started. Now a bit more into his career he has had enough doses of reality to know that legend and fame are over rated.
Still he is a knightly man and longs to return to civilization and a nice tourney.
His coat-of-arms is purple & green rose over a crimson cross with scarlet outline on a sable field. At tourney is he has been mockingly called The Rose Knight. It used to bother him, now he wears it with pride.
Appearance: Tall, well built and handsome with sandy blonde hair and green eyes. Always clean shaven, though he wears his hair a bit long and shaggy.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Need to know where he is from, Tharkus seemed the most "European" of the places you described, let me know if there is some place better.
Also the name is a purposeful wink at OSRIC
Anything else I need?

In temperament Mot is hearty, jovial, highly materialist (he loves exquisite metals and gems, for their lustre more than their GP value). He is also fair-minded, somewhat ribald, and a generally willing companion (though he resents being oath-bound to the stuck-up Issimene). Mots composite bow, with which he is pre-eminent shot, is made from the horn of a Karakadon, and was given to him by his Master, the ancient bow-maestro Ravellos. The bow is named Misdug, which roughly translates from the Ancient Tongue, as despairer or the one who bestows despair.

By way of background, Issimene's deity is the tripartite Lawful Nautral demigod Wilbecan, represented by the spiral symbol. Praise is via spiral dynamic prayer (whirling, dervish like in deepening trance) and through the practice of colour based meditation, activating levels of consciousness by way of the gnosis of memes (e.g. Beige = survivalistic; Purple = Animistic-tribalistic order; Red = Egocentric dominionist; Blue Absolutist-authoritarian; Orange =Multiplistic-strategic; Green = communitarian/egalitarian) Presently Issimene is by nature a Blue cleric and is most effective at that level.
(This is, of course, a basically sarcastic in-game rendering of 'this world' spiral dynamics theories and their fixation with memes, as posited by the likes of Beck, Wilber and Cowan (Hence Wilbecan). Ahh, the lengths I'll go to to amuse myself!)
