Sources for character inspiration...

I bought the following 2 books at Costco today, for $25 each. The write ups are not only great for the reason these books were published, but they are also great to look through to get inspired for Victorious PC or NPC generation...

Note that if you don't have a Costco to go to, the prices at Amazon aren't bad either. Especially on older editions, which shouldn't be missing much that the newest editions have.

Good stuff, though I've found the DC info (esp. the 1940s-1950s) have characters that work better for V than marvel. Personally, I've found the Encyclopedia Victoriana the best source, but unless you look it up on the wayback machine you've got to buy the print edition which is kinda pricey...even on Amazon.

Another good source is Kim Newman's Anno Dracula series. He makes an effort of putting in characters from fiction as background characters in his books which give you a nice stable of NPCs. His "Hound of the D'Ibervilles" book is good too, where he writes from Col. Moran's viewpoint of his relationship with Moriarty. Its a bit of humor, but still useful.

The Encycopedia of Victoriana or The Encyclopedia of Fantastic Victoriana? Both of which are cheap. One is free with Kindle Unlimited, which I have, the other is like $2 plus shipping. Now the hard cover, they want $120 for that one. 2005 edition. The 2015 edition is $60 pllus shipping. Both are the Fantastic Victoriana book.

My bad, I meant the Encyclopedia of Fantastic Victoriana. I didn't know there was a softback version, or even a kindle file available. I cut and pasted the original website back in the day, so have been unwilling to pay $100+ for the book. $60 is more reasonable, and kindle is better still. I might have to get that just to see if the author added in anything that wasn't in the website.
