Well, I dont have the finished product but Hartsfield was kind enough to send some stuff my way and I really like and appreciate all the effort that dude's put into this project. Lots of genuine love for the oldschooliness(tm) was baked into this project.

I do have one small hangup over this book.

I got the email from Steve telling me "We have completed the Classic Monsters. It is ready for printing. At this tier of support you pledged $25.00 for receipt of the book in digital format and hardcover with tshirt. Please send us a request on how you would like the book, whether PDF, Kindle, Itunes or on the Nook. We will work hard to get it to you."

I immediately fired back an email to say "Excuse me? I pledged $35 to this. I've got the receipt right here."
To date, I've heard nothing but I can't help wondering if anyone else has a similar experience.

Knowing my past order history, I'm sure that was a typo on Steve's part.
I ordered the $25 package, and it didn't include a Tshirt, so I'm sure you're fine, and that Steve will make it right regardless.

Aarkor,

Hello! This is my fault. I sent a form letter letter out to all who pre-ordered, all I had to do was change the amount, but didn't do that on the 35.00 pledges. I noticed about the time I hit send. I did get your email, and thought I had answered that, chances are its in the draft folder, NOT having been sent. I do apologize for the mix up, but we do have it all worked out on your end and Peter checked to make sure you name is under the 35.00 pledge in the book.

Steve

Steve,

Thanks for the reply. I can appreciate that you can get e-blind doing all those boilerplate emails.
Lord only knows, I get the problem myself.

Here's looking forward to the book ...

Can we get an official response on when we can realistically expect the digital version?

Peter is working on the anchor linked versions of the digital files right now. We are told that Kindle is taking PDFs, if this is the case then the world just became an easier place to dwell. So to answer your questions, it will be this week for certain. Maybe as early as Wednesday, probably Friday.

Thanks,
Steve

Which Classic monsters are gonna be in this book. Is there a list somewhere?

Alright the Kindle version did not work. The graphics are just too heavy. The same is true for the Nook and Itunes versions. So Peter is pulling all the graphics out, moving them to the back of the book and will anchor them to the text they support.

So in the meantime we are going to upload the PDF version and distribute it via yousendit. I am hoping today, but literally as I was uploading it, it was brought to my attention that one monster is in the book twice. So we are doing a quick adjust and then upload will begin. With any kind of luck folks will get an email about the download link tonight...it being the 1st of March today.

Thanks!
Steve

Yikes! Does this mean it will be downloaded with an attached Nazgul?

Better twice than having an entry disappear (ahem... stats for Shark in the 3rd print M&T hardback).

;)

Looking forward to checking out the new book!

That's why I get the PDF's after the fact. The 3rd Ed PDF had the Shark entered correctly...

The OGL declaration is screwed up again.
pages 4-85, “Monsters”; pages 86-127, “Treasure”
Also, some of those monsters should have the Tome of Horrors declaration to ensure legal use of their names.

Some Stat Blocks cross pages and columns.
Elementals XP section HD is missing spaces (HD in Combat sections are missing spaces also).
Firbolg - Alignment line gets chopped down for some reason (maybe there used to be a pic there?), Same with Wereshark in Attacks and Special.
Mihstu - The period for this sentence is on the next line.
A successful constitution check negates any loss of constitution
In Svirfneblin - i.E. +3 To armor) E and T should be lowercased.

That's all in a quick glance. I'll post more when I inspect it deeper.

Whoa!

Haven't enjoyed a "monster" book like this since -- Well, I really liked the original TrollPak from Chaosium. But that was more of a campaign toolbox, and this is - well, this is down-&-dirty get-'er-done MONSTERS.

And, OH, that art!!! How I'm gonna miss it in the Nook version!!

I think it'll be there. Just linked/anchored and pushed to the end of the nook book.

Apparently the newer model's of the kindle support reading pdf's at least. So, in theory, those who have kindles can just get the pdf and have all the art where it belongs.

I've been bending my brain trying to figure out how to get graphics and tables to show up properly, and be in their proper place, on a kindle format. Its just not there yet. The kindle was aimed more at the traditional novel than an rpg book, it seems.

That was one o' the reasons I got the Nook tablet. Saw some books on it which mixed text an dgraphics well. Don't know how they did it, or I'd do it myself. Dagnabbit.

nook uses epub I believe, even with the DRM'ed books. Here's a tutorial of how it's done, apparently.

Argh! Videos! It takes SO LONG to go through videos. Eventually, I'll find a book which explains this.
