Default CLs in Old Modules

Post by Mark Hall »

What do you use as a default CL for locks and traps when running a game using an old Module? I've been more or less defaulting to the CL being equal to the thief's level, so they need 12-Dex to do it.

Any other thoughts?

I like that. Not going to use it because I like mine better, but I do like that idea. -Treebore, summing up most home designers' philosophy

My default CL, period, is the recommended level of the module, so then I look at each individual trap/lock, etc... and decide which to have at the low or high end of that range.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I generally go with what Tree suggested. If the modules is for "4-6 characters of 5th to 7th level" then I'll make most CLs in that range.
