prime?

Why is charisma prime for paladin and knight? one of them has followers at higher level that might be effected by charisma. And I understand having a few classes for each attribute for balance. But even their skill and ability spread really doesn't use charisma to any great extent. Now like most the other classes use their prime. Like say a rogues use of dexterity for example.

It is because they are all so good looking!
I think it has to do with how each of them is a shinning example of their alignment and faith. They have also been knights since AD&D (pre-Unearthed Arcana) and their leadership abilities.

It may have also been a requirement to severely restrict the number of paladins in the campaign world and in gaming groups.

But someone with much more knowledge will give you the correct answer.

For the knight, CHA is an important attribute for leadership. Reading through the core C&C books, you get the impression that the knight is invaluable for his leadership abilites. His special abilities due not require a CHA seige check, and this a benefit to the class. The knight must be a leader for the Inspire, Embolden and Battlefield Dominance to be effective, even if there is no mechanical reason to do so. I'd look as the CHA prime as the payment for having the class abilities which do not require a check to do so.

For the Paladin, his willpower is key. Like the knight, the paladin does not require many seige checks to perform his abilities, but CHA is tied directly to willpower and the Paladin class is a force of pure willpower. The paladin has to stick to his code, his deity and himself in the face of all temptations and challanges. While WIS is important for the connection to a deity the paladin does have an ability or two which requires a WIS seige check. When creating a paladin character, CHA is vitally important (hence the prime designation) but a good WIS score might be worthy too.

I guess I can understand that. But I just with they got a mechanical bonus out of it too. like maybe adding charisma modifier to healing done to lay on hands. and embolden lasts a number of rounds equal to level and charisma modifier.

Other classes have direct ties between prime and skills or prime and abilities. With out this I think the pally and knight are at a disadvantage.

This is C&C, we are all welcome to house rules such things. I have thought about doing such a thing too.
