Barbarian Armor Use

In the 4th edition PH barbarians are listed as being able to use any type of armor (p.10 & 20). However, there are at least two contradicting statements elsewhere in the text:
The last paragraph of the class description (p.18) states "... preferring cold steel blades, light armor, and items of little bulk".

Under the optional multi-classing rules (p.142) there is a sentence that reads "Barbarians may not use primeval instincts while wearing armor usually prohibited by the class".
It would seem to me that in keeping with the spirit of the class that the armor choices should be limited to something similar to the ranger. Perhaps even a little more limited to offset the d12 hit die.

Thoughts?

I don't use the "new barbarian" but if I did, I would use the 3rd print armor restrictions.

The page 18 text I would just chalk up to descritive in nature, and not dealing with anything mechanical. For example, some of the barbarian abilities limit him from weariing armor that is 25+ pounds.

For Primeval Instincts, I think that is just poor wording referring to the fact that any armor 25+ lbs or more will negate the class ability.

That makes sense. Thanks, Omote.
