The PHB 4th printing explains the illusionist using curing. See pg 50 in the soft cover right before the section entitled preparing spells.

I'm raising my hand in support of arcane healing. I grok the idea and think it's cool. I may not allow it in every game, especially if we have a cleric who wants to play more of a combat support role, but I appreciate that the option is provided.
Now if we just put that spell in a potion, I've got my snake oil salesman PC ready.

Just so there's no confusion, I split this off from the Keeper Advice topic
here. There was an issue with the Keeper Advice forum permissions that has supposedly been fixed.
I didn't want to just delete your posts, since that's not cool. Hope y'all have no problem with it.

I've long thought that the restriction on arcane types healing was kinda silly. The heals still consume resources (spell slots) that could be used for other things.

I also agree Mark Hall. Since wizards can be masters of the death spells, why can't some be the opposite and restore life? I can see for the purposes of game/archtype balance keeping healing spells limited, but just make clerics masters of healing spells, and give wizards the lowly Cure Minor Wounds and spells that restore only 1d6 HP or so.

I've decided that, for my games, I do not really care. If it means Player A might be a spellcaster, great. I have a hard enough time getting them to see the point without having to further restrict them. Apparently, continually having your donkey handed to you on a platter by an opponent spellcaster is not enough to showcase their mighty Omoteness.
