Comparing C&C characters' power levels...

In another thread I've asked people what modules of previous editions they would recommend.
Now, it is clear that 3.X characters of the same amount of HD will be more powerful than their C&C counterparts, but what about 1st and 2e?
Can I use the xp rewards mentioned in those books as they are? Or do I have to whip out the calculator?
When they say 'An adventure for X amount of characters of levels x to y', are those levels fitting with those of C&C characters?
I'm asking because I started playing D&D with 3rd ed, so I'm not familiar with previous editions beyond that one.

Yep, I have followed the recommended level and done just fine. But one caveat, I typically use 2E monsters, which are considerably tougher than 1E or C&C monsters. Especially giant types.

And yet the C&C players did fine against the 2e monsters?
Also, do you keep the original xp reward for the monsters?

Yeah, except in the Against the Giants series, killed them a lot in those. Fortunately they kept the cleric(s) alive, so Raise Dead kept them going. Especially the Frost Giants. Wicked.
As for XP awards I use the guidelines in the M&T.

If I wanted to be lazy and use the original xp, would there be much of a difference? Just asking, it's not like it takes a lot of prep time to do that. I might even check it out for myself tonight. :p

There is a difference that can build up over time, but if you also allow treasure to add to XP then I think the difference will be very minimal. The C&C XP system is pretty easy to use.

With the possible exception of dragons. Dragons in C&C are nasty, and killing one is (if the CK is using their capabilities) a significant accomplishment.
Which is how it should be!
