If I missed this section somewhere in the PHB forgive me, I just went through the pdf again and couldnt find anything specific, there are passing mentions of morale and loyalty, but thats about it
Any guidance on morale checks for hirelings? Just a fear save? Possibly with a modifier based off the employer's charisma.
My players have recognized how useful hired meatshields are so I figure I should start paying attention to these things.

I would have a charisma check, allowing charisma prime classes to add their level.
Modifiers would have to be a bit of an art form taking in the situation (tricky, dangerous or downright deadly/fubar), their length of employment (+1 per month or per season?), their trust in their employer (his behaviour, positive or negative) and the like.
I'm the kind of guy who would use rolling as a last resort though and use my judgement of the situation to decide their behaviour in most cases.
