TN = CB, yeah?

Post by redwullf »

Noted that the C&C character sheet in 4th printing PHB has "TN" listed as part of the Saving Throw formulas. I gather TN means "Target Number" and is the "old way" of saying "Challenge Base." Is that correct?

I thought the TN was the challenge Class, not the challenge base?
CC = CB (12 or 18) + modifiers

but yeah, old old version vs newest.

As described by Pete Bradley who made some character sheets a very long time ago that had the "TN" notation, it stood for either 12 or 18 depending on prime.

I thought Relaxo had it right. I almost remember somewhere in the PHB (maybe not, though) where it says something along the lines of "...this represents a target number a character must roll..." when referring to the Challenge Base (CB) and Challenge Class (CL, or the "modifiers" referred to in previous posts) together. A TN, being a "target number" doesn't make sense being the CB alone, because the CB alone is not what the PC is rolling for! :)

I think the "TN" on the character sheet is erroneous. The new sheets remove the "TN." But the one in the PHB I think that should say "CB." So, in that regard, Omote is correct. But I don't have and old, old version of a PHB, so I can't say for sure. If the Trolls used TN for CB, I can understand why it was changed. ;)

I've been using TN and CC interchangeably at my table pretty much since I started C&C.

right, i should have called "modifiers" the "CHallege Level" to use the technical terms.

or something.
