Bard hit die

Post by tylermo »

Is d10 the hit die for a bard? Is it possibly d6 or d8 instead?

No, it's a d10. Been that way as long as I can remember (which has been the last two printings before 4th). I can't quite say why, though. Maybe more of a skald/warrior-poet hardiness?

LD, from what I remember that is exactly what the C&C bard class was based on so that is why they have such a high HP.

I'm sure others around here can go more in-depth on it.

From a convo with Steve at one of the cons, the bard is indeed based on a norse skald, which is why they are more of a combat oriented class. And they do indeed have a d1o for HD (since the 1st printing).

Indeed. More warrior-poet than Jack of all trades rogue type as in 2nd or 3rd ed.
Search around and you'll find several houseruled spell casting Bards with different characteristics. i think a d8 or d6 HD w/ Cleric spell progression works ok. YMMV
