I bought the 3rd printing of the Players handbook a years ago but never really got into C&C. Now my son wants to start playing roleplaying games and so I thought I'd give C&C a try again. I would hate to have to buy the Player's handbook again, but maybe I have to. I'd like to get the digital version of the CKG also. With multiple places to purchase C&C, Are there any sales going on right now?

You can get the PDF of the current printings of the Players Handbook and Monsters & Treasure on sale at Drivethru RPG. The PH is $10, M&T is $8, or you can get both for $15.

If your son is interested in gaming, maybe you should look at Harvesters. Seige Engine (Rules light C&C) game geared towards kids.
