STR and weight able to lift

I plan on switching my group to C&C. One of the Q's I have is based on the rule about lifting based on str score. You can press 10X your score. Problem: A Storm Giant has a STR of 24. It can only press 240 lbs.?

Maybe, CKG has corrected table or rule?

Hmm, off the top of my head . . I believe that "press X 10" is for PCs, not monsters.

:)

Couldn't find any rule that has different lifting figures for monsters.

Hmm, I'm not finding any specific rules. Off the top of my head, I'd probably go with one of these options:

1) Assume the PHB rules only apply up to Str 18, then just make a chart for weight limits for Str > 18 that gives you the results you want; e.g., if you think a Str 24 should allow for 2000 lbs., then assign that, and scale the rest of the Str scores.

2) Use the PHB rule, but include a multiplier for size. So, yes, a 6' tall human with a Str of 24 can lift 240 pounds, but a 10' tall giant with a 24 Str could lift quite a bit more, per whatever multiplier you settle on.

Why do you need lifting figures for monsters?

A storm giant is huge and magical ~ and can hurl boulders 780 feet. I think we can assume he is very strong. I believe much of this is a CK's call/assumption. Otherwise, what a lot of work to figure out how much every monster can lift.

:)

Because they interact with PC's...

Since C&C is based on the Open Gaming Liscense, just check out the d20 SRD for more detail. Here is the link for carrying capacity, which has tables going from a Strength 1 all the way up to 29 and beyond.

http://www.d20srd.org/srd/carryingCapacity.htm

Just for reference though in the case of a an NPC or PC with 24 strength....

A 24 strength's light load is 233 lb. or less; medium load is 234-466 lb.; and heavy load 467-700 lb. A character can lift as much as his or her maximum load over his or her head. So in the case of a 24 Strength Player or NPC, it would be a straight lift of 1400 lbs (or there abouts). Though a character can generally push or drag along the ground as much as five times his or her maximum load. So in the case of Mr. 24 strength that would be 3500 that could be dragged or pushed.

To tie this all together... All the above is for a Medium-sized creature. Since it is a Storm Giant, I went over to the SRD's entry on Storm Giants (here: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/giant.htm ) It shows that it is a Huge-sized creature. That means, according to the SRD, that I multiple that number by 4. So a Storm Giant with 24 strength can actually straight lift 5,600 lbs, and drag/push 28,000 lbs. Lastly, and something to keep in mind, the SRD entry for Storm Giants gives them a 39 Strength.

Hope this helps!

Yes, thank you. 24 str in C&C translates to 39 str in D&D 3.x. I can make the calcs for 19-23 also.
