Pirate rogue w hook and gun in Aihrde?
Pirate rogue w hook and gun in Aihrde?
A friend of mine who has roleplayed some with me over the past seven years(D&D 3.5, Star Wars D20, and Savage Worlds)has pretty much agreed to play some C&C. For his own personal reasons(and to each his own), he usually plays a pirate/rogue character named Redbeard in our campaigns, despite the traditional fantasy setting. No big deal as far as that's concerned. We're playing in Stephen C's world of Aihrde. The A-series as a matter of fact. My own problem is that he wants some sort of limited use flintlock(or something comparable). I haven't flipped through my ckg to look at the firearms, but it just doesn't feel right in the setting. Any thoughts? Also, this character will be using a hook. Should I use an existing weapon like the sickle as a reference for damage? What sort of modifiers should be applied when using the hook instead of a hand? I'll try to get more details from him over the weekend. Thanks. Looks like we're going from 3 players to 5 in our game. Pretty cool.

Castles & Crusades Freeport Companion published by Green Ronin might do the job. It adds a couple new core classes - Noble and Pirate. As far as a hook, Freeport has what's known as a Gaff - which is basicaly a hook used for moving stuff - i.e. the classic hook for pirates. Lastly there are, of course, rules for firearms - from pistols to canons. Here is the RPGNow link:tylermo wrote:Any thoughts? Also, this character will be using a hook. Forgot about this. I've got the Savage Worlds version. I'll glance at that one first, then make a determination. This guy always plays a pirate in non-pirate settings. haha Thanks.

The Metal, I almost wish you didn't post that link, because how do I NOT buy that? grr.....

The pirate in non-pirate settings is ok, just have his background as "blown way off course" LOL

The Freeport Companion is great - I'd have bought it even just for the bestiary. The pirate class should suit your player nicely. The firearms are more deadly than those in the CKG, so you might want to compare and decide what suits you.

I'm not a big fan of firearms in traditional fantasy. I'll have to decide on that soon.

Looks like the pdf is 12.00. Might not happen this week. I'll have to crunch the numbers and see. As I recall, the Savage Worlds version was really good. I need to look again.

Well, I picked up the C&C Freeport, despite having the Savage Worlds version. The pirate class wil come in handy for my friend's character. I told him Aihrde isn't likely to serve up a bunch of swashbuckling, sea-faring adventure. He's cool with that. It looks like most of the pirate's class abilities will serve him on dry land, as well. Didn't see stats for a hook hand in the C&C version. Won't be hard to do. As I recall, this guy's character(in other games)still has a hand, but lost a couple of fingers. He wears the hook over the hand and remaining fingers. He's able to manipulate it too. I may have more questions for him and all of you tomorrow. As for his character using a firearm....IF I allow it, I'll go with the lesser powered guns in the ckg, but maybe use the misfire table(or whatever it was from Freeport). A0 The Rising Knight Pt. 3 continues tomorrow night. Now with 5 players!
