Attribute modifier and damage

Good afternoon,

I'm new to C&C and I was running my first adventure this past Friday using the adventure Danovar's Desire (Crusader #12).

The following question came up:

When adding my attribute bonus to damage for a ranged attack, do I use Strength for the damage bonus or Dexterity. My first thought was Dexterity since it is bonus used on the to hit roll. However the discussion ensued that perhaps it was the strength bonus that should be applied for damage. I have the hard cover and pdf version of the players handbook and while one of the players searched the hardcover I used the find function in the pdf. Although I'm assuming it is there somewhere, we were not able to locate a definitive answer for the question.

Can somebody please clear this question up for me and the game group and if possible cite the location that it is in the players handbook?

Thanks in advance for your assistance in answering this question.

You didn't say what you were using for a weapon. Normally you will not add any attribute modifier to your damage with a ranged weapon, such as a bow or crossbow. If the weapon is thrown, add your strength modifier. Some bows (rules in the CKG) allow you to add some or all of your strength modifier but have a minimum strength required to pull.

Citations:
4th printing PHB, p.130 right side, under Ranged Combat:
"Additionally, a character’s strength modifier is added to the
damage of thrown weapons, but not propelled weapons. "

CKG: P. 257, see Pull Weight (and be prepared to be confused; why is Normal no bonus but Easy is?)

In either case, it's strength that adds to damage unless some more specific rule is present that allows you to substitute a different attribute. In C&C I can't think of one off hand.

PHB section: Ranged Combat: "When attacking with ranged weapons, the attacker’s dexterity modifies the to hit roll. Additionally, a character’s strength modifier is added to the damage of thrown weapons, but not propelled weapons."

So, only applies to throw weapons. Thrown spear, add str bonus to damage. Bow & arrow, no bonus to damage; only bonus to hit from dex.

I believe, you don't add any damage bonus to ranged attacks, except for thrown items, like handaxes and such. Those, you add strenght bonus to. It should be in the description of strenght in the beginning of the book. I don't have mine handy to look for sure.
