I just received the CKG from amazon, and the print quality is very poor. The text is too light and looks "ragged". Is this a common problem, perhaps with early printings?

I have the first one, but it was one of the bent cover ones. The text is dark, but does look like it was printed in "draft" mode; it does have a ragged look.

Yup. As I understand it, the PHB and M&T were printed "out of house," the CKG "in house." There's a noticeable difference in the physical quality of the product. I believe the latest newsletter said something about them outsourcing printing again for a while. Personally, that makes we wish I had held off buying the CKG until now ...

On the bright side, it is readable, and the content totally rocks.

Hmm, I thought TLG fixed up their early print problem before sending copies to Amazon. I have a pre-order copy and it's perfect.

That said, Amazon is very good about returns. If the book is terrible, I recommend returning it to them for either an exchange or your money back. And then you can order one from Noble Knight or TLG.

I ordered the CKG when it was released. The print quality is very good, dark. I'm not I follow you on the ragged adjective, but the early copies seemed quite good to me. Sorry to hear about your lower quality printing. As mentioned above, TLG has outsourced their latest batch of CKGs to Walsworth Binding. This company makes some damn fine books as evidenced by the PHB and M&T in my opinion.

If it's like mine, the print doesn't look very crisp, as though the ink was doing some very tiny bleeding into the paper around it. The tables are poor too - the shaded rows look grainy and uneven instead smooth and solid. I have two copies...a softbound and a hardbound one. Both look great. I don't think mine was a first print, though.

I remember Stephen telling me about Walsworth in the past. I knew that prior to the M&T of A hardcover and the CKG, that the hc's were being done elsewhere. What I don't remember is whether or not Walsworth just makes and binds the covers, or if they also print the interior pages as well. Dumb question to be certain. Either way, the glossy covers are preferable to the matte finish. The ckg is a fine addition to the C&C line, and TLG and Walsworth will make this a great book.

Throughout my copy, tall letters like f's and such, have the top fading off and some are difficult to read. The print can be very light in places. This was one of the very first copies, so I'm not sure if it changed after that, but if that's what you are referring to, then I understand competely.

A few books that come off our presses do tend to fade. This is part of several problems we have to watch...drum/fuser/toner. Generally we catch these, replace the failing part and move on. Sometime we miss them. Drop us an email at orders at trolllord.com and we'll get you hooked up.

The good news is that we have sent the CKG to print at Walsworth. Keeping up with demand in our smaller shop proved impossible. These are schedule to ship on the 12th of Oct (next week). This will eradicate this problem for the CKG at least!

Hmm, now I'm not sure how to feel. "Yay!" that better copies will be available; "boo!" that I'd have to buy a whole new one to get it ...

In any event, if we order a new copy direct from TLG after the 12th or so, is there a way that we can be sure to get a Walsworth printing?

Also, is the hardback of M&ToA going through Walsworth as well, and if so, when might that be available?

I should clarify, that we have two presses. One of these does not give us this headache, it just prints very, very, very slowly (about 5-1 in speed to the one that does give us headaches). With the CKG going to oursource, we'll be able to take a little bit more time with books like the MT of Aihrde.

Not damaged enough to make the hassle - the back cover and last several pages came loose from the spine glue, but nothing's fallen out yet. Mostly, I just wish the print quality were the same as the other books, so I'd be willing to buy another copy if I could be assured that it will be more like the PHB and M&T.

It is. There are rumors of his demise, but no one has been able to prove it. He may have formed a band in 1992 called the Viv Savage Experience. But there is, once again, no proof of this.

My CKG is fine, but my hardback PHB and MT that came in my slipcover are... backwards.

MT has the PHB cover and vice versa.

FYI: You are my new favorite on this board.

I got an early perfect bound copy of the CKG. I had not complaints but now that you mention it, and I go do a side-by-side, the print quality is not on par with my other books. It is a bit ragged although still perfectly legible. I never would have noticed if someone had not mentioned it. Certainly not worth replacing in my case.

I have one of the faulty CKG books.
I tried to contact the Troll Lords using the e-mail address indicated by Steve or using the "contact us" form of the store, but I don't received any answer. Any suggestion?

I've got one of the earliest hardcover CKGs produced, and the print in mine is just fine. No problems.

School House Rock! A nice diversion to be certain. I'm thinking the Trolls need some sort of animated special dealing with how books are printed. It worked for the encumbrance video. Why not?

Just buy PDF and print out a high quality hard copy.
