Why are TLG using kick starter to fund the new book? I don't really know much about the site but I thought it was for startups to get money to put things out. Dosen't seem like TLG need to take this approach, so whats the reasoning? I think I'm just ignorant on the subject.

Just because a company is "established" doesn't mean it avoids the need to raise capital to expand production lines. Huge companies do it all the time via the stock market by selling their own shares. This is simply another vehicle for ensuring money is available to start a new product...

It's also a means to gauge interest. This is how the Trolls are using Kickstarter, since everyone paying more than a dollar gets a copy of the book (PDF or print).

I think it's cool that it also affords supporters chances to get more bang for your buck. I put down $25, I don't just get a hardback, I'm getting some other goodies as well.
