Experience points for monsters?

Finally got a long-term C&C campaign going that wasn't a con game. We've got one final encounter, and The Rising Knight will have been completed. It's nearly time to award experience for monster kills and the like. Do I have this right...a single goblin would be 6 hit points times the hit die of 1(d6), plus 5 experience points per hit point, for a total of 30 experience points rewarded? Stupid question, but just want to be certain. I'm sure I'll have more questions about experience later today. Thanks.

Should be 5 base + 1 exp per hp.. So that goblin is 11. (At least this how I read the chart in the M&T)

Ok. Looking at the book example, 25 hit point creature. 25 hp X 5 hd=125, and all I do is add the base of 80(for the 5 hd creature)for a total of 205.

A 24 hit point creature(let's say a harpy)with 3 hd...24 hp X 3hd=72+the listed base of 20=92 total experience?

It's brain fart day for me. Worked most of Saturday, slept 3 hours, did more work, ran a 3 hour C&C game, got 5 hours sleep, and at it again for another 3 hour game tonight. haha

I think that's right, though I might add the Special I XP bonus for the harpy's spell-like ability (charmsong).

Yeah. I just quickly perused the m&t for another example on just the basic hd xp figuring, and grabbed the harpy. So, here's another look...

A 24 hit point creature(let's say a harpy)with 3 hd...24 hp X 3hd=72+the listed base of 20=92 total experience? Now instead of 92, I add 10 more(because of the special I ability)for a total of 102.

I notice darkvision is listed under special as well. Is there a bonus for that, as well? I assume not?

This is where it starts to get tricky. Generally if the Book lists a xp total use it. For Harpy is says XP: 40+3, so your example should be 24x3+40=112. As to why it's probably base=20, Song = 10, Fly=10 (or darkvision=10) for the 40. However the examples are not real clear so you have to decide as a DM what is worth the bump.

Serl did a full list of average exp for all the monsters in the M&T a long while back. I still have a copy if you want it. Pm me your email and I'll send it your way.
