Trying out C&C

Hey all, I'm new to the forum and new to C&C as well. I've been looking for a fantasy game for my boys thats a little more up to date than my older 2nd edition collection but not as intimidating for them as Pathfinder. From what I see C&C may be just the ticket. I'm in the process of converting their Pathfinder characters, and I may hav be ready for them to play this weekend. I was thinking of starting them on "Shadows of the Halfling hall" and then moving on to "A Dark Journey" any thoughts on that?
I'll be posting the results of our foray into C&C over on my Blog

I was going to respond at your blog site, but don't have the proper profile, or whatever. Here it is.
Good choice. Hope it works out for you. Print is a little small on the C&C digest books. You'll find that the Trolls usually run some pretty crazy deals on their hardcovers, so they can be found even cheaper than retail sometimes. I notice you mentioned Savage Worlds? My other game of choice, especially when I'm looking for things outside of the old-school fantasy realm. Stick with those two systems and you can't go wrong.

Welcome to the Crusade! While I can't speak for Dark Journey, Shadows of Halfling Hall is a pretty cool adventure. Another great thing (for me) is that conversion of other material is a snap. If you have some favorites from 1e, 2e, B/X, even 3.5 and Pathfinder, you can run them with little work.

Dark Journey is an introductory module, set for 1st level characters. It's pretty big (100 rooms, three levels) and can take a group from 1st level to a decent level (3rd-ish) before they leave.
Regardless, have fun! C&C is my game of choice these days (on the fantasy side). I love it.

Hey, EvilDM -- I'm a long time lurker on your blog and it's great that you've found your way over here to join the Crusade.
I find that C&C is a wonderful blend of the new (3E) and the old (AD&D/2E) with many of the best features of each. Runs like AD&D/2E and has spells, etc, familiar to the 3E group so it seems to please folks from each side of the fence.
I got my kids hooked on C&C when they were pretty young and while they don't know the rules well enough to run a game they certainly know them well enough to play. I think it has a nice learning curve and not that many tricky rules to know. C&C is a great choice if you want them to learn gaming that has a philosophy the way it was done in the 1980's.

Welcome to the Crusade!
Dangerous Journey is a fun old school dungeon crawl. The players in my Skype game are having a blast with it.

Dark Journey.
A little background... I wanted to title it "
Tenebrous Journey", but Steve said it sounded to uppity (I don't think he knew what
tenebrous meant), so I changed it to
Dark Journey.
