Making a +1 bastard sword

A knight who recently joined my A-series game wishes to trade in his slightly-used two-handed sword for a +1 bastard sword. I'm going from memory(since I'm not right in front of the M&T), but I thought I saw random tables, including one that indicated 1,000 gp value for a +1 weapon. Was that the cost to make the weapon, in addition to buying a bastard sword, or something else altogether. I'm curious about the process, and if just any old smith(from a one-horse town)can handle the job. Thanks. P.S. If he were to trade in the slightly-used two-handed sword, what would it bring?

The quick and dirty rules in the M&T indicate that each "+" of enchantment on a weapon is the bonus squared X1000gp. The base cost for a +1 sword would be 1000gp plus the cost to make the sword.

It requires a spell using character of the appropriate level. Varies by class.

First step: find a bastard.
Well, wouldn't that be the essential ingredient?

He'd have to pay for the cost of making a masterwork weapon to be enchanted plus the 1000gp cost of the enchantment...though in my game, the cost would be greater since I would require that the character obtain/purchase specific materials with which to make the sword plus the actual spell costs.

I use the XP creation method. So, my players would have to pay whomever gave the life force (XP). That price has to be negotiated. Unless of course, the PC wants to donate his/hers...

I'm not sure if that is a requirement for magic items in C&C.

Looking back at this, it doesn't appear to be in the M&T at all. Though it does say the CK has the option of making further requirements in terms of material and such.

Do you mean a +1 enchanted sword, or a +1 masterwork sword.
The PHB equipment section states that a +1 to hit masterwork weapon costs 10x base value, while a (what I call 'double masterwork') weapon (+1 to hit AND damage) costs 25x base value. Or something to that effect, since I don't have the book in front of me.

I assume a masterwork +1. I'll have to check that out later today. Thanks.

I thought this was the game with the simple rules?

M&T explains how to create magic items, offering 2 options (the xp method and the cost method). The table (I don't have the book handy) shows the cost for each +1 enhancement. Bonuse squared x 1,000 gp I believe, making a +1 enhancement cost 1,000gp (base). I would certainly require the weapon to be "masterwork" in my campaign.
