Depends on how tall the bear is? Since this thread was getting too serious for too long... :D

I was going to ask if an overbear was similar to an owlbear, but decided to research it for myself. Have left traps out by the dumpster, and we'll see what we catch.

I'd say add Str modifier. As far as overbear and two attacks - I'd allow it. Under the Overbear heading, it says that it's a "type of attack," so I'd allow it to be part of a two-weapon attack, following the penalties for attacking with two weapons.

Because overbear is a kind of attack is exactly why i wouldnt use it as such.

I forgot one part,

The ogre does a (siege) trip attack and a normal attack.( with dual wielding penalties) Because of the wording of the ogres specialization in the trip. I weould give the ogre +6 prime for the trip.

Also if someone was prepared for the trip attack (delayed action) I would let them (siege) to leap clear or land on their feet.
Please don't beat me.

So, looking at the rules on grappling and overbearing, it seems grappling's DC is based on STR and DEX while overbearing is just STR.

If you were working in a "trip" maneuver, would you add your STR bonus to the save vs prone (like over bearing) or would you add Dex (trying to stay on your feet). Or, heck, would you add both (like grappling)?

I dod trip attempts exactly as Overbearing, just using DEX. The penalty is the PCs is prone.

Those aren't a problem, as long as your wearing your anti-Sea Rhinocerous underwear. :)

I didn't get it because my circle was slightly elliptical.

This is actually an interesting observation. All the dual wielding ogre conversation aside, I would have never considered the overbear maneuver to be a "type" of attack, but more of a "maneuver" so to speak. You can attack as normal or overbear. It's an interesting thought, to allow it to be used as part of a dual wielding attack (again, both attacks subject to the dual wielding penalties).

You know, I actually like that idea Dynel. Opens up some interesting combat options, esepcially for large (and bigger) sized opponents.

If it weren't for the two youngest grandkids (and the three closest ones) I'd have no idea of what passes for television any more.

I'm going to actually start a new thread on the topic of using overbear as a standard attack, since that's getting off the topic of the ogre, overbear and searhino conversation.
