Ranger damage bonus for ranged weapons?

Post by shadowspawn »

I was wondering if the damage bonus for humanoids (orcs etc.) should be applied when using ranged weapons like a bow?

I allow it. However, two caveats:

1) rate of attacks with distance weapons is as per AD&D
2) damage bonuses with ranged weapons are split amongst the number of attacks so if you get a +3 and attack three times, you get a +1 damage on each that hits

Also, I use the distance penalties.

It all depends on why you think that a Ranger gets the bonus for melee. If you think it is from having detailed physiological data on those type of foes, probably not except at EXTREMELY close range against a relatively stationary target. IF, you hold that it is a supernatural power, probably, yes.

I dont overthink it, I just allow it for any and all attacks. That's what special powers have always been like in my D&D.

Since this ability doesn't specifically state that you cannot use it for ranged attacks (like Combat Dominance), I would certainly allow it.
