Optional Attribute Modifiers & Bonus Spells

Post by Galannor »

Hi, if I choose to adopt the optional and alternative attribute modifiers from CKG, p. 10 - 11, do bonus spells for high attribute scores change accordingly? For instance, with Method 2, Table 1.3, CKG p. 11, a score of 15 gives the character a bonus of +2: does this bonus refers also to bonus starting spells, so that a cleric with a Wisdom score of 15 gains +2 (and not +1) 1.st level bonus spells?
Many thanks,
Galannor

The higher Wisdom *bonus* wouldn't change the # of bonus spells, because bonus spells are not based on the attribute modifier. Bonus spells are based on the attribute *score*. 13-15, add 1 1st, 16-17, add 1 2nd, 18-19, add 1 3rd. See the PHB, p. 25.

There might be something in the CKG about connecting att. mod to spell bonus, but I haven't seen it. Make a good house rule.

I wouldn't change the bonus spells, were it me. Ieuane nailed it, and I would follow this line of reasoning - the spells are based off attribute score, not modifier. House rules notwithstanding, of course. :)
