Movement and ranged attacks

Just need a quick confirmation here, you can move half your move and make a melee attack....does this also apply to missle weapons? Can you move half your move and make a ranged attack?

I allow that, as long as the character had the weapon ready & loaded. I don't recall the rules making a distinction between ranged and melee.
Casting is another matter - if memory serves, you can't move and cast in the same round. Though of course, one could always allow the caster a SIEGE check to try and get the spell off while moving.

You know, I'm thinking you are correct. I can't find a distinction. We've been doing it as half-move/melee, but I think you may be able to do half move/ranged as well.

Movement and attacking with a ranged weapon, even one which is not readied, is somewhat classic, especially for stalk-hunters, and I would have no issue with allowing it. This, even more so, when contemplating allowing use of thrown weapons as movement may even be necessary for it to be effective, such as a javelin.
Regarding spells and movement... I believe the PHB has a few brief sentences about a Castle Keeper allowing the caster to make a "concentration" type check to do it. I have normally not allowed this, unless the movement is upon, and performed by, a static platform like riding in a wagon.

Until now, I disallow totally movement in the same round of a ranged attack, probably because I was sure this was the same as in the 1st ed of AD&D. After I have read your post and reread the PHB, I think I allow it for my players. I think it may improve combat making it more dynamic.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Yeesh, Doominicus, that may be were we were influenced from. For some reason, we have been running it that way, but good golly, I can't figure out why. Re-reading the rules, an attack clearing includes ranged attacks, such as thrown or missle weapons (we are not talking magic here, by they way, that is clearly defined in the magic section).
Ugh, we are going to correct it. I suppose it's only fair. Will certainly put a different emphasis on combat and positioning. With archer types able to run around and search for the clear lines of fire, bows are going to become a lot more potent (terrain allowing, of course).

BTB, you're allowed to move 1/2 your current movement rate and attack with a melee or ranged weapon. The number attacks you have are not considered in this rule. If you have 10 attacks, you can still move half your current movement rate and attack as many times as you have attacks.
You cannot move at all and cast a spell, unless the spell specifically says you can move and cast (of which currently there are no spells in the PHB that allow you to do this).

Does this mean you can Run half your move (i.e. quadruple your move for running and then halve that) and then attack?
