"Oh, Rogues can use whips, how cool is that! Let's see what the stats are for whips..."

*Flips the pages to the weapons section*

"Hey, where's the whip?"

I wish that GM's would encourage players to select more non-traditional weapons than the standard fair, then make the weapons useful and not a hindrance for being selected. It takes both sides that has to be willing to go out of their comfort zone. I think guarantees, by the GM, that if taken, will become just as viable and important as say a sword. The whip doesn't have the hit-point advantage over a sword, but the GM should allow the use of other more out-of-the-box thinking when using a different kind of weapon. In the whips case, giving it the ability to entangle an opponent or used as a "motivator" for interrogation would up the usefulness of these non-traditional weapons. If both sides don't realize the benefits of non-traditional weapons you'll be forever stuck with traditional weapons.

NTW's could really spice up a campaign from their current second grade rating that now exists. Having a whip on par with the traditional could make characters even more unique. Imagine a Ranger with a whip. That'd be pretty cool.

My next character concept is built heavily around using a steel wire whip, being a wizard-rogue loosely based on Zorro. Planning on creating a new class ability specifically for it, as well, just to add in a little extra flavor -- Parkour.

Isn't Parkour simply taking Dexterity as a Prime? However, I think if you want to do something cinematic, a whip could give a player an equipment bonus on dexterity rolls for stuff like that when it can be justified. Kind of like Indiana Jones or Zorro who use their whip by entangling it somewhere and swing over... I got this idea reading Sir Ironside's comment.

I would not say Dexterity Prime is the same thing as "freerunning," although it certainly cannot hurt. Otherwise, I tend to agree: the whip is underrated. Even the sound it makes is not something to be trifled. Now, get one enchanted with sound burst and you've got something very, very naughty.

The whip is great against unarmored opponents. Not really damaging vs. heavy armour but can entangle nicely...
