Class and a Half & Weapon Proficiency

A Class and a Half character uses 'the best weapon proficiency list'.
Does that simply mean he combines both or that he has to choose from one list?
For example, a Monk/Rogue. Would he have to choose from one of the two lists? Both have weapons that the other class doesn't!

RAW, you take the best, so in the event where there are some weapons on one class and not the other, simply select the list that has the "better" weapons. This is one of the defining characteristics differentiating true multi-classing and class and a half. Also remember that Class and a Half is not really multi-classing but building a NEW class by combining the abilities of the two. So while with Multiclassing the character may be a Fighter/Wizard, with Class and a Half Fighter(Wizard supporting) she is a Blade Caster, or a Wizard/Bard becomes a Spellsinger, and so forth. (see this post for some other possible CaaH names...

Take that with a grain of salt and the Golden Rule of RPGs, do what is right for you and your group.

I see, thanks. Good thing I'll be making an Illusionist/Rogue, makes the choice easy! :p

This question has come up before in our games. We had a monk/rogue combo who I had to rule had to choose which list to use. Because monk was the full class, he went with the monk. It's an interesting discussion on how to do this though since the rules are limited to personal preference.

I think that's a logical choice, and it works because Monks have light weapons too so he's not penalized on the Rogue side. In the end, since 'best weapons list' is relative, I'd simply let the player choose which one they prefer.

Does keeping skills within classes make the game less realistic to anyone else? I used to run my SD&D (Silly D&D) campaign of GreatHonk with rules such as, if a fighter is running from the guards and comes to a wall, he has to stop because only thieves can climb walls. And thieves could put their hands over their heads at noonday, creating a small shadow in which they'd hide.

Sounds interesting. I've never played a "D&D" type like you just described.

It was just taking the D&D/AD&D rules at literal face value. Armor class, for instance, actually stopped something from hitting, according to the way the rules read. So if someone shot an arrow at a guy with an armor class of -10, the arrow would stop in mid-air. Little things such as that. Imagine if Picasso and Gracie Allen had a child, and it was the gamesmaster. That's the sort of was I ran D&D at conventions.

Problem with this Dell laptop keyboard (?) is that the cursor occasionally goes nuts and deletes or transposes stuff. The above should say "That's the sort of D&D I ran at conventions." Sheesh!
For the record, it was the LBBs, the 1st Basic rulebook, and the 1st printing of AD&D that we used. And I'm sure our version of D&D would have given Gary Gygax fits and hurt his head.

Not the keyboard, it is most likely the touchpad. I had the same kind of problem, and caught it while typing and noticing that the point moved and "clicked", or highlighted sections of text, then realizing that the heel of my hand was hitting the touchpad. The answer to that was simple, turn off the touchpad when typing and turn it back on after, or use the "eraser" mouse stick, and of course if at my desk I would use a regular mouse/keyboard so the issue didn't happen then. My last laptop had a button next to the touchpad that would turn it on and off, unfortunately my current one does not.

There is a 3rd party pgm called TouchFreeze. I've used it for years. If I hadn't found it I would have chucked my laptops years ago.

Thank you. Am downloading it now, and will see if it makes a difference.
