That's pretty cool. Wil Wheaton did a lot in ST:NG to make him dislike him, but recently he's been tipping the scale in the other direction. Between this news and his appearances on "Big Bang Theory" I'm finding him to be a pretty cool guy after all.

Big Bang Theory, The Guild, and Leverage. Pretty much the same diabolical nerd character in all three - and great to watch in every permutation!

That man keeps making it harder and harder to dislike him. Next thing you know, Andy Dick will be a Con favorite.

The episode of Criminal Minds that Wheaton was in was pretty good.

Am I the only one who didn't have a problem with Wil Wheaton on Next Generation? I had a problem with his character on the show being used to repeatedly save the day in the early seasons. However, having a problem with the actor simply because he played a role that everyone found fault with? Anger once again misplaced, and energy thus wasted.

I was never a huge trekkie, so I didn't even know about the Wesley Crusher hatred until much later. I agree that it doesn't make any sense to hate the actor just because a character is annoying - but then again, fandom isn't know for its ability to separate fantasy from reality ...

Yes to all of you! Wes Crusher kind of sucked, but Wil Wheaton is a normal guy just doing his job. It's like hating Jake LLoyd (is that his name? the 10 year old Anakin Skywalker?)

This was me. I have no grudges against Wheaton, but really hated the way the character was used in TNG. The concept was fine, but the execution was terrible.

Seems like a nice enough guy, however.

Ditto. This is my feelings on it, too. I've always surmised that it's akin to soap opera stars (and oddly enough, professional wrestlers) who get flak outside of the profession because of the personas they've displayed in the spotlight.

I didn't know that. I thought I heard somewhere that he may have also picked up Savage Worlds along the way. I'd like to meet him someday. I remember his column in Dragon or Dungeon at one point. Cool guy. Not his fault about the Wesley character. Writers and directors more likely.

You might notice that Wesley's character improved (vastly!) after Roddenberry was no longer active in production.

Seriously, he was just a KID playing a role as he was instructed. Hating on a person for playing a character in a show nearly what, 25 years ago is pretty petty. Even for fanboi's.

By all accounts Wheaton is a pretty standup guy and over the past few years has been a really great spokesman for geek culture.

Plus he's got C&C books... what's not to like?

I don't have a problem with Wheaton at all. I think he got a bad shake after TNG and wasn't able to get serious work. Kind of a Mark Hamill effect.

Now, Wesley Crusher was and is the Jar Jar Binks of the Star Trek universe.

Wheaton's not a bad cat seemingly. I'm a huge Trek nerd, having even gone to a big Trek Con in lieu of Gen Con a couple years back

I never found anything in particular to hate about Wheaton.

'Ceptin' for his foul mouth, probably nothing. And I guess everyone has to have some fault or flaw. (Especially in GURPS or Champions.)

Interestingly enough, HE disliked how his character was written (and at times acted). he's got a e-book that gives a synopsis of the first season episodes. With it it describes the behind the scenes stuff and his own commentary. Pretty funny stuff.

I hated the character of Wesley. But Wheaton was a kid who got a chance to be on a tv show that he was a big fan of. He didn't write the character, he just acted it.

Looks like Wil Wheaton is the big star for autographs this year at GenCon. I may wait in that line and ask him to sign my PHB.

I think a lot of the guy. He's the king of geeks.

Wil Wheaton played 4E WITH only a D4 and WON! In 2 minutes! The other three hours and fifty-eight minutes he role played and made all the other pc's try and pronounce his name successfully.
