C&C World/Setting Confusion
C&C World/Setting Confusion
Ok, so I've mostly completed my C&C adventure module collection and I'm trying to organize them, in part, by what setting they take place in. For example, the A series all seem to take place in the core Airhde setting (as presented in the After Winters Dark folio). The DB series seem to take place in an autonomous setting, The Haunted Highlands around Lake Veyona, not sure what it's actually called. But this doesn't appear to be in the greater Aihrde setting. Then the U series seem to be in neither of these. Does anyone have a quick idea of which series occur in which setting?

Re: C&C World/Setting Confusion
I'm only up-to-date with the "A" series and the "DB" series where I've really only have taken a quick read through. I know that most of the modules are created kind of vanilla as in you could drop them into other adventure/worlds totally unrelated to Aihdre and even other cousin systems (D&D, AD&D, Old school renaissance etc.)
I get that, for over-all sales, having more flexibility means (hopefully) more sales.
Though a small paragraph stating where these modules tale place, in the world of Airdhe, then saying they can be used for other systems would have been helpful. To me it is like an extension of something that I'd like to see in TLG modules because when I buy a module I'm buying it to take most of the CK work away from me and not having to build my own adventure or sand box world to play in. I'd rather have a coherent idea were each module set takes place in Airdhe rather than having to guess. The thought of having to poor over maps and books of Airdhe to find an appropriate place for the setting really takes away my goal of doing little as possible when I run these modules as a CK. I'm sure that other posts are going to point out that either it is...
Both require to have the full knowledge of the world of Airdhe were as I want to discover Airdhe, through the modules as we play them. No doubt I"ll read some parts of the Airdhe book when it comes out, but I highly doubt I"m going to read it cover to cover on the first sitting.
This is kind of world "railroading" but modules are made for railroading to begin with.

- Pretty much spelled out where it is, in the module.
- If you know the world of Airdhe it is easy to pick a number of places to put the module in.

The DB series is essentially its own setting (though small enough to be placed wherever)
The U series is specifically not tied to any setting
The I series takes place in Inzae (refer to Airhde planar cosmology with how Inzae ties to it)
That said, most of the others also take place in Airhde (notably some of the d20 conversions into C&C such as 'Lion in the Ropes', 'The Malady of Kings', and 'Heart of Glass'.
Hope that helps a bit.

Re: C&C World/Setting Confusion
I think a quick sentence or two in the module's introduction is a good thing ("If you're using the Airdhe campaign setting, then this adventure takes place in..."). It would promote Airdhe, for one thing, and give those of us peering at maps peace of mind.

Re: C&C World/Setting Confusion
Thanks Moriarty, that's a huge help. The U series was the most confusing, as the cover of Halfling Hall on my printing shows a very large elaborate map, but there is nothing inside that references any locations on the front. I'm thinking maybe they just used it as cover art. You can make out locations such as Colnmark, Ekwood, Shiplake, Oselstrel, Arnshop, K'Dir Marsh Bay and a few others. It looks pretty interesting. Also, it appears that the S series also takes place in Aihrde. I was looking for the Bay of Brand that was referenced in that module but then I realized somewhere there must be a typo because on the Folio map of Aihrde, there is a Bay of Brund.

Drift: Isn't Inzae an alternate reality of Airde? and I got the impression, it's like, the inside of the planet, a hollow earth sort of deal? is that cannon or just wild speculation? or me being silly? (the latter is the most likely)

Re: C&C World/Setting Confusion
I think that is what I have loved so much about the Wilderlands setting. There is some terrain and/or back story somewhee in the setting, that will fit just about any module. I use all kinds of stuff from Airde, Wilderlands, Greyhawk, you name it!
Put it where it makes sense to you in your campaign.
