I need to replace my C&C books...they recently got damaged sooo if I were to buy the complete set which player's handbook is in the slip case 4th printing or 5th printing? other than color what's the difference.

Seeing as how the 5th printing just came out I'd hazard a guess that it is the 4th printing.
other than color what's the difference.
From what I understand the only thing different in the 5th is colour and some cleaning up of errata and grammar stuff.

Do they still sell the slip case by itself? I was going to buy one for my books but never got around to it.... :(

I bought mine from Noble Knight. Could never (easily) get the case from TLG.

Pretty sure the case version is 4th print. As I understand it, the 5th is colored and made some more errata clarifications.

Didn't they also clean up encumbrance a bit? I've never used the rules, so haven't read them myself.

Yessir. Major simplification of the encumbrance rules.

Really? I'll have to give them a read and see if I am finally willing to use and enforce them.

The new encumbrance is better.

The new one is better.

:D

j/k

It is simpler, easier to understand and use and track and just deal with. I apologize, ut i'm worig on like, 3 hours sleep and just can't compare the two line by line right now.
but I think the overwhelming concensus is tat the 5th emcumbrance is better.
To my knowledge, its the only change to the text (besides a typo or three).

The entire 5th Printing encumbrance rules (less figuring EVs for items) can be summarized as follows:

Your Encumbrance Rating (ER) = Str (+3 if Str or Con is Prime, +6 if both are Prime)

Encumbrance Values (EV) add up same way as before (per equipment list)

3 levels of Encumbrance:

1. Not encumbered = EV total equal or less than your ER
2. Burdened = 1x to 3x your ER: -10' movement (minimum of 5' / round) and +2 CL for Dex checks
3. Overburdened = More than 3x your ER: Can only move 5'/round, automatically fail all Dex checks, lose Dex bonus to AC

Just that simple.

Thanks, that is very simple. Are the items basically the same EV?

Just got mine in the mail today, (C&C Complete in slip cover) I love what I see so far. Mine is 5th printing for the players handbook. I ordered it roughly two weeks ago, maybe not quite that long. I am happy that it is the 5th/newest, but I hear the changes aren't a big deal and I wasn't really going to care much if mine was 4th, 'cause I hear the big thing clarified was encumbrance and that is something I have never cared about. (unless it got crazy)

My first post here... so, "hi!" :)

Chumli: welcome to the forums and C&C!

I recently noticed that they added a few pics to show that it's indeed the 5th printing:

Right now I just have the PDFs of PH 4th and M&T, so I may finally break down and buy this set, it looks great!

Welcome both Chumli and chiisu81!

Yeah, the changes weren't that big a deal. But, for me at least, it's nice to have the freshest rules. :) EV, the maze spell, and something else, I thought but can't remember at the moment. I think Traveller went over them somewhere. But the color is very nice. :)

Apart from the new Encumbrance and the multi-classing/class and a half rules (which are all great, EV is a lot more simpler to manage now if you use that in your game), and some new illustrations, I didn't notice a lot of difference with the old version in PDF format that I have. The PHB is gorgeous though with the coloring they added, it really looks and feel like AD&D!

I own the C&C Complete Set, and I must say I'm very happy with it :)
