What I'd like to see
Re: What I'd like to see
Their artists are top-notch. However, I tend not to like the non-traditional take on, or the facial representation of some of their humans and demu-humans. The creatures...fantastic! Paizo should have used dofferent art for their gm's screen. A fantasy battle scenario akin to P. Bradley's portrait screen art. I don't play PF, but I like their products and production values. I'm happy they're doing so well.

To be honest, things like the Kindle and Nook will never replace books as far as I am concerned. There is something about them that I enjoy much more than staring at the screen.

I'm looking forward to more Amazing Adventures goodness. I want the familiars, rune lore, and City of lies to just get here faster.
So just more and faster would be fine with me.

Thanks for looking. BTW, did you base some of the capacities off of SRD resources. Reason I'm asking is that if you can't locate the files I was curious if using the vehicles from those rules would be workable replacements.serleran wrote:I looked at the stuff on my PC, and it seems I removed those files. I don't use the d20/3.5 SRD for anything. If you like the numbers therein, use them. It can't hurt things any more.
For my part, when I am writing stuff, I investigate the sources. Some times, the information can be wrong, but I try to make it accurate given what I can locate. Certainly not an expert, and wouldn't claim to be, but I like things to have some "verisimilitude."
I won't be able to look for the originals until at least next weekend and I cannot guarantee I'll find them.

Beyond C&C I would like to see some more support for products like StarSiege, Fields of Battle and similar games TLG has produced. I would also like to see some expansion into other games; say bring back Melee, the Tarzan game and Cleaver: The Pit.

I tend to read stupidly thick novels. Carrying them around with me to court is out of the question. With my kindle, I've got all of them in a lightweight and thin portable format. It's sooooo much better than lugging around a 750 page epic fantasy novel.Dracyian wrote:For me, I love my kindle for reading Comics and Mangas, however when it comes to novels, for me there is something about curling up with a physical book that just doesnt get oldButtmonkey wrote:For novels, I vastly prefer my Kindle to hard copies. Thats totally respectable, I by sheer circumstance read thinner fantasy novels, and try to buy the seperate pieces instead of the combined so they fit into my lunch box for work, but since I work at a bank its not such a big deal what I read on breakButtmonkey wrote:I tend to read stupidly thick novels. Re: What I'd like to see
Since this kind of turned into a tablet discussion I thought I'd get some opinions.
First my requirments.
First my requirments.
- I read a lot and I have no clue how a Kindle Fire would fit in this equation. I have a PRS505 (Early adapter) with e-paper. I wouldn't mind an upgrade as they paper itself is a light grey and not as crisp as the newer ones.
- I'm not thrilled if I have to read off of a digital screen. I do that enough with my computer and it is nice to be able to give my eyes some relief when reading a book.
- The PRS505 does suffer from glare which means I have to slight alter it to get rid of the glare. I'll note that this is not a huge problem.
- I don't need all the bells and whistles. My primary use is to read. I don't need to hook up to the internet or watch movies, access music etc.
- I don't want a proprietary system. I like it if I can hook it up to my computer and download stuff that way. I got a feeling that this is standard now and like my phone it has all this stuff that I will never use.
- Be able to show a whole page of a pdf (Particularly rpg games) ease of hyperlinks wouldn't be bad either. I don't mind if it is a little smaller that the actual game book size but those 7" tablets are a no go for me. Because the requirements for both, I think is unrealistic to expect one ereader/tablet to do it all. So I'll accept a "tablet' like system to view pdf's without having to navigate around the page. And keep using my Sony PRS505 as it works perfectly after all these years.
- Go as cheap as one could go.

Re: What I'd like to see
I've had a 2nd gen Kindle for a quite a few years now and I still love it. Zero glare, easy on the eyes even after multiple hours of reading, and I can load files from my computer without any problems. My only gripe is that it doesn't display PDFs that well (if at all) since it's an older model, but I hear the newer ones have no problem reading PDFs. If you can get into a Staples, they usually have a Kindle on display (at least where I live) so you can play with it and see if you like it.Sir Ironside wrote:Since this kind of turned into a tablet discussion I thought I'd get some opinions.

Re: What I'd like to see
Please note the distinction between a Kindle and a Kindle Fire. The Kindle is just an e-book reader. That's all it does and it does it spectacularly well. No glare or eye strain (it uses "electronic ink"), it stores a ton of books, and the battery life is excellent. If want you want to do is read, it's perfect.
The Kindle Fire is a full-on tablet. You can read books on it, but it's going to have glare and eye strain like any other color tablet. It has all the bells and whistles to do gobs of stuff other than reading books. It's probably better for using PDFs than a Kindle or other basic e-reader since it's in color (as opposed to the Kindle's grey-scale) and can have a significantly bigger screen.
There is a version of the Kindle with a larger screen that might be better for viewing PDFs, but again note that it would be in grey-scale, not color.
The Kindle format is proprietary, but you can download PDFs onto your computer and transfer them to your Kindle, so you aren't limited to what's available in the Kindle Store.

For a larger color tablet, avoid the Kindle as it isn't an open system. Determine your minimum screen size and look for an Android tablet.Sir Ironside wrote:Since this kind of turned into a tablet discussion I thought I'd get some opinions.

Hi folks, tylermo wrote:Kreider, Hellfrost author, Paul "Wiggy" Wade-Williams, is a fan of C&C. It's been awhile since I've e-mailed him, but there was talk (quite some time ago) of converting some of the existing HF adventures to C&C. A couple of people familiar with both C&C and Savage Worlds were working on the project, I think. I would imagine that Triple Ace Games is busy pumping out material for Savage Worlds and the Ubiquity system. Wiggy once mentioned doing some old school adventures for C&C, but it was a matter of finding the time to do so. I need to e-mail him again.
Tylermo is quite correct in that I am a big fan of C&C. Our writer had to pull out of the Hellfrost adventure conversion (for valid reasons), and the project withered as we concentrated on other material. It's unlikely we'd ever do a full conversion of Hellfrost. It was written for the system it uses and it's just too big -- something like 90 products -- and still growing as we open up the Arabian Nights-style continent in the next few weeks.
However, when I can get back to GenCon I'll be aiming to talk to Steve about the possibilities of acquiring a C&C license for a setting I've had in my brain for a few years. But that won't be this year, sadly, and no work will commence without a license.

I guess I don't have to e-mail you afterall. Glad to hear you're still considering something for C&C. I would love to see you guys at GenCon. My last year was 2009. I probably have one or two options for booth sales (I think), but travel and hotel expenses end up being the problem. Anyway, don't hesitate to call on me when this C&C project sees the light of day. I hope you don't have trouble obtaining a license. Have you worked in the industry much? Maybe a few credits on your resume?

Only 257? You're slipping. I'd have thought you'd be up to 500 by now? haha Anyway, count me among the first who'd like to see some of your offerings for C&C. I'm afraid you'll be disappointed with the shorter stat blocks. I I know your favorite chore was writing stats for D20.
Re: What I'd like to see
That brings back some truly awful memories. Having to show (for editing purposes) how EVERY modifier and skill level was gained for evry d20 monster and character was beyond a chore. Still, those dark d20 days are behind me now.tylermo wrote:Only 257? You're slipping. Re: What I'd like to see
I really can't think of too many things I want but there are a few things I would enjoy. I will start with support for cleaning up and improving the existing core books on the next reprint. Please fix errata and other things such as the container/cargo weights etc. Also before anything else gets planned or started, I would like if the things already in the works would be wrapped up. Mainly the new codex of Airhde. I would like more source books that expand on the core. New character classes, spells, maybe a nice big equipment book, you know the kind you can haul out and beat unruly players with and has pictures of the items so you can show it to the pacified player later. Oh and a new Portrait CK screen, that would be high on my list, even if it was just a PDF insert.

Same here. I know EGG mentioned Francois Froideval's manuscript for what was supposed to be TSR's OA was returned to him in the 90's. Not sure if I am misremembering, but I thought he wrote about wanting to get FF's ms. into the Trolls' hands for a C&C OA.Ronin77 wrote:I would love to see an Oriental Adventure book as well.Sir Izzy wrote:I'd love a conversion of Oriental Adventures/Kara-Tur, please.
The discussion of this was in 2005 (right around the time that my world blew up as my first wife fell ill), so my recollection could be sketchy/inaccurate. The sentiment is the same, though, as then: I'd love to see FF's work translated into English for the C&C game.
