I am really looking forward to the A series being finished.

Post by Treebore »

I've ran up through A5 myself, then played through A1 to either A 8 or A9 in nwelte's game, and I am really looking forward to the distant future when Steve and Davis will finally get this thing finished, hopefully with an awesome boxed set to wrap it up with a big bang. I just hope we all live long enough to see it actually happen. Then live long enough after that to actually run the whole campaign.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Steve posted somewhere that he was currently working on A12. If memory serves, there was only supposed to be 13 of them, with 13 being mega dungeon Aufstrag. So, we should see it sometime by 2020. ;)

Me Too.... I've faithfully bought them as they've come out. I've yellows and blues, by the end the I bet they will be purple :) Haven't tried to run them yet but, soon I tell myself.

I've written about half of A12. I was making good progress until Codex Celtarum came out and its been a non-stop litany of interruptions...all good I might add. Right now my plan is to vanish from these offices on Friday until Thursday and I'm taking my lap top with me. My plan is to finish A12 so that when I get back I can focus on the Codex.

So, Treebore, what does that mean in Troll time? October?

According to the Troll stones, November of 2015. I used real chicken blood, so it should be a solid date.

To get a true date, you should have used the runes from Rune Lore. :D

Even in Troll time, I think A12 will arrive before the end of the year. A13 may be another matter. It's all good. My players and I are barely on A3.

I've packed my lap top, put A12 on it and bug out tomorrow. Sadly I found it has wireless so I'll still be able to check email! :o

Don't use sloth blood, you're answer will probably come right around when A13 comes out.

Going to that super-secret location in the Ozarks again, Stephen? He was working on Rune Lore there last year, as buzzards circled above him. True story. A fellow C&C gamer (from Wisconsin) and I thought Stephen was hallucinating when he told us that on Facebook. Apparently not. Enjoy your vacation, Troll.

I can see it now at the end of a12 the players are ambushed by a harrassing pack of unique trolls with the pack leader weilding a fell oak tree as a club wearing dead lamb and goat skins as a shaman with the very odd name of Treebore, following closely behind by his militant second in command master fighter Rigon commanding the small band of troops comprised of Tylermo, Dracyian, Sir Ironside (the one and only Troll Knight) and Mgtremaine...

That is far too cool of an idea for Trolls to use.

When A13 is finished I'd love to see a supplement (preferably free, but I admit I'd pay for it) that ties the whole thing together:

1. A roster of important people across the modules with their locations and any plot areas that are triggered by interacting with them.
2. A list of plot areas that are reached through arriving at a location or speaking with someone.
3. A list of locations, modules/side adventures they tie to, and rough power levels.
4. A list of non-trivial items and artifacts and any plot triggers.
5. A map of sorts not focused so much on geography but of relationships between the above.
6. Some idea what the dotted lines and dots on the map are or suggestions for their use.
7. A mini gazetteer for the Blacktooth Ridge area, maybe just summarizing info from the modules but addressing:
a. Political Climate
b. Economy
c. Law
d. The Crusade
e. Relationship with Pryzmira's empire and major cities
8. Facts from the Troll's own table which pertain to the Blacktooth Ridge area. Though I think Stephen or Davis' campaign takes place like 100 years earlier, there are some references?

Armed with this, a CK running any of the individual adventures can overcome the paralysis of not knowing the effects of letting someone take over this town, kill that person, sell that item, etc. Without that, or doing that work themselves, CKs of a certain stripe feel claustrophobic and overwhelmed. I admire the seat-of-the pants CK who says screw it and lets things go where they will, and I am leaning that way these days, but when I first got into the A series that was a big worry.

It's a lot of work, but I think it could be satisfying for all; the A Series is really worthy of a concordance and other trappings. Even with the steady stream of Adventure Paths coming from Paizo, the A series has a long history and deserves some recognition.

I think by detailing these somewhat more rigid places and events, and given a rough idea of economy/politics and feel, this area can make a smashing sandbox as well (as many CKs have already found.)

In fact, I think another product I'd buy is simply a good Blacktooth Ridge map overlaid with hexes and numbers, so we can get to work on the forums suggesting ways to populate those hexes.

Look at all of those great suggestions. Stephen, just take the money from his wallet. He's begging for it. As for Draycian's idea, it's only missing one thing...gnomes. As I recall, Stephen and Davis LOVE Gnomes. ;-)

I do dig the A-Series. As I was reading Umbrage Saga, I came across the sub-plot about the Tree of Life and the Elvish Watch Towers (Towers of Hithel). It is only mentioned in A0: The Rising Knight, though in A1 there is a Watch Tower. But it has captured my attention. Has anyone explored this in their own campaigns?

I know that we'll be seeing the Weird Evil, Just survived Mega Fortress/Tree that is Aufstrag, which based on the above story appears to be an utter corruption of the Tree of Life. But is there any chance we'll see something from the Trolls on Towers of Hithel Story Arch?

I'm not sure about in the near future. Aufstrag is looming on the horizon!

I failed to complete A12 whilst out and about, but wrapped up about 80% of it. I should be able to kill the book off this afternoon and tomorrow. I have only the Turm-Un, the Tower of the Horn to compelte. These were Coburg's personal quarters when he was Captain of the Gates. They offer the characters a safe base . . . assuming they are properly cleaned out . . . from which to operate while they explore Aufstrag.

I'm thinking of a bi-weekly release of 3000-4000 words on Aufstrag after that. No published thing until X amount is written. But rather short adventures the slowly explore the Tower.
