Old hand. New to C&C

After taking a long break from tabletop gaming about 3 years ago (4th ed. finally did me in) I'd been getting the itch to play again recently and I sort of stumbled into a bunch of OSR blogs and the like and a few of them mentioned C&C. Intrigued, I picked up a copy of the PHB through amazon and I have to say after receiving it a few days ago and giving it a long look I'm hooked; Just about the perfect blend of old "skool" and new "skool" I could have hoped for.

In any case, I just wanted to say thanks to the Troll Lords for putting out such a nice product that isn't a slave to the past but knows where it's roots are!

Now I just have to rustle up some people to play with ... ;)

Welcome!
You sound like me! I stopped playing right as 3rd ed came out (nothing against 3rd ed, just graduated and started working and lost touch with gaming group) and several years ago I was like, hmmm I'd loves me some D&D but getting back into the swing of the rules seemed hard. Poof! C&C: so simple yet robust. I was in love instantly.
If you're deep into 3e or PF or 2e with Player's Option and Complete books then C&C doesn't look like enough rules at first, but the Siege Engine really does the trick.
I'm a shameless fanboy, it's true. :D

But the point is: Welcome!

Good to have you along for the ride. As I tell people, C&C is my D&D!

I know my old gaming group still plays the 4th ed. of "that one game that bears the name of the game that isn't that game anymore" and I'm still friends with a couple of those guys so maybe I'll do some arm twisting and get them to try something new. I'm sure I'll have to DM, but that's actually something I'm looking forward to with this system.

A fray! Time for NJPDX to do what NJPDX does best. Mulch the 4th edition and gather your friends for C&C (and cheese dip).

I love your avatar. My favorite comics series ever. Working on restoring my collection lost when a water pipe burst over it in my last house's basement.

Yeah, I lost mine in a house fire back in 2003.

Yikes! Sorry to hear, guys.

I have the fortune of having the owner of the comic store I frequented as a pre-teen and teen operating his new store just two blocks from me here in town. I have re-bought quite a number of Groo comics. My wife reads the Buffy and Angel series of comics (among others), so we have enjoyed a few trips to the comic store to add to our collections.

Me too. But the purge of '95 I stopped collecting and sold my collection en-mass. I even had the Starslayer back-ups, the first run(s) (If my mind doesn't fail me I think it was First Comics then Pacific comics) and the special before they went to EPIC.

There will never be another Groo. ('Mazing Man was cool to.)

I just have to get through the next month or so at work; 60 hours a week since the start of May and until the end of July is kind of putting my RPG aspirations on hold at the moment.

In any case, dachda (who used to live in Portland) was kind enough to contact me and mentioned his old group is without a GM ... so depending on how things shake out after deadlines that might evolve into something. We'll see.
