Have you "C&C ized" the three orders of knights? IF so, can I have a copy?
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

No, but somebody was doing a conversion around here some time ago. Dragonhelm would currently be your best bet I think. PM him here, or at the DL forums.

The DL conversion (well done btw) is listed under the fan-based sites in the stickied links thread of this forum. I believe it addresses all 3 of the knight orders.

There is also a C&C conversion of DLA at the Dragonlance Nexus, which is pretty good.

I'm a huge fan of Dragonlance, but I guess I'm a bigger fan of the C&C rules. My take on the Knights is just that Crown Knights are C&C Knights, Sword Knights have multiclassed into Cleric (sans weapon restrictions), and that Rose Knights have triple-classed into Paladin. Neat, simple, no fuss, no muss. Everything else (even the "level requirements") are just roleplaying. Why do you have to be at least 5th level "Sword Knight" before multiclassing into Paladin (I mean, Rose Knight)? Because that's the in-game rules as imposed by the Order - not the game system. It's politics, not game physics. You've got to pay your dues, and respect the centuries of tradition.

Thanks for the info.

This comment is before I re-read anything, but if/when you switched from one order of the Knights to another, didn't it keep you the same level?

If not, I think that is what I am going to do. If you switch from one order to another your level stays the same, just xp requirements will increase, depending on the powers of the new order. So you will essentially stay single classed.

I don't know. Like I said, I'll have to actually read it all again and refresh my memory from 15+ years ago.

Treebore, I've checked the conversion hosted on DL Nexus and it looks like an updated version of the file I was talking about.

This was my take on the Solamnics for C&C. Not a "crunchy" take, but I prefer orders to be more Rp and not just rules crunch.
Knights of Solamnia

This treatment of the Solamnic Knights for Castles & Crusades does not view them as a class in and of themselves, but more of a knightly order in which a character can gain membership in. As such, their representation here will entail more of the social benefits and constraints than actual game mechanics.

It should be noted that the benefits and hindrances of knighthood require representation by the player and the CK in order to be properly conveyed. Otherwise the title means nothing.
Joining the Knighthood

Characters wishing to join the ranks of the Knights of Solamnia must conform to the following requirements:
Race: Human. After the War of the Lance an occasional half-elf was admitted.
Alignment: Lawful Good.
Class: Cleric, Fighter, Knight, Paladin, Ranger (rare)
Squire of the Crown

If the above criteria are met and the candidate finds a knight in good standing to sponsor them the character can go before a Knightly Council and petition membership. If there are no questions of the candidates honor then he swears an oath to the knighthood and vows to uphold the Oath & Measure. At that point he has joined the knighthood as a Squire of the Crown.

A squire must gain at least 1 level while a Squire of the Crown exhibiting the virtues of loyalty and obedience. Once he has done so he can petition at a Knightly Council for full knighthood.
Knight of the Crown

This is the first tier of knighthood. The tenets of the Order of the Crown uphold the virtues of obedience and loyalty. A Crown Knight is expected to show unquestioning loyalty and obedience to those of higher power and authority as long as such authority adheres to the Oath and the Measure.

Members of this order come from all of the allowed classes as it is the entry point in the Knighthood. Veteran Crown Knights are usually fighters, rangers and knights. Clerics and paladins usually rise to the rank of Sword Knight as soon as they are able.
Benefits

As a Knight of the Crown a character has the following benefits:
Hospitality: As a member of the knighthood, a character can expect a certain amount of hospitality from the citizens of lands sympathetic to the knighthood. This could include lodging at a farm for themselves and their companions, simple provisions to aid them on their journey, or countless other small forms of similar assistance.
Circles of Knighthood: In areas where the Knights of Solamnia have established a Circle of Knighthood the character can petition the circle for aid. Such aid may take the form of coin, equipment, healing, assistance in a quest, in times of need make a petition for war among other things. The amount of aid granted varies from circle to circle depending on the Circles resources and the rank and esteem of the person asking. It will be up to the CK to adjudicate what assistance any given circle may offer a knight.
Skills: Due to their training in the traditions of the order the CK may allow Knights of the Crown to add their level to checks involving heraldry, history and other areas associated with the knighthood.
Hindrances
Tithe: A crown Knight is expected to tithe 10% of his money earned to the knighthood.
Chivalrous Conduct: A knight is expected to act with honor on the field of battle as well in all that he does. Infractions against the Oath and the Measure can be brought against a knight and cause him to be stripped of his title. A character in the knighthood should always strive to act in accordance with the Oath and the Measure and CKs should ensure that improper conduct is punished by the knighthood when applicable.
Animosity: There are certain areas of Krynn that are unfriendly to members of the knighthood. The penalties in such areas might range from outright hostility to refusal of services or an increase in costs for knights wishing to do business there. Again, adjudication is left to the CK in such instances.
Knight of the Sword

The second tier of knighthood is known as the Knights of the Sword. A Sword Knight is committed to the ideals of truth and justice. Their focus also turns from the swordplay of the Knights of the Crown and they begin an in-depth study on the basics of heroic honor and the worship of the gods.

Those who wish to rise to the ranks of the Knights of the Rose must first study as a Sword Knight. Most veteran Sword Knights are people who have displayed a greater deal of understanding of the divine and seek to champion the gods of good. Paladins and clerics are most prevalent at this level of knighthood. Members of the fighter and knight classes are common here as well as they conduct their training with this order before advancing to the rank of Rose Knight.

The Knightly Quest

Those wishing to join the ranks of the Knights of the Sword must achieve two class levels while maintaining good standing in the Knights of the Crown. They are then sent on a knightly quest. In accordance with the Measure, this test must be a witnessed deed that upholds the virtues of knightly good, honor and heroism. The quest has to have the following elements:

1. A journey no less than 500 miles and 30 days.

2. Three tests of the knights wisdom.

3. One test of the knights generosity.

4. One test of the knights compassion.

5. The restoration of something that was lost.

6. Single combat against a worthy evil opponent with victory gained while adhering to the ideals of honor and courage.

Once the quest is completed a Knight of the Crown can petition a Knightly Council to promote him to the order of the Knighthood of the Sword.
Benefits & Hindrances

The benefits and hindrances of a Sword Knight are identical to those of a Crown Knight with the following exceptions:
Tithe: A Sword Knight is expected to tithe all of his wealth to the knighthood except what is required for personal upkeep and upkeep of land and retainers.

Circles of Knighthood: The CK should take into account the increased rank of the petitioning knight when determining what aid the circle might offer.
Day of Worship: When a Sword Knight joins the order he designates a day of worship in which he prays and meditates. The Measure states that a knight should abstain from combat, reap financial gain or utter harsh words to another person. Nor should the Knight travel unless he does so in silence and he spends at least three hours in prayer and meditation that day.

Should circumstances prevent such strict adherence to the holy day a Sword Knight is expected to minimally observe at least 1 hour of meditation.
Skills: Due to the Sword Knight's focus on religious matters the Ck should allow even those knights who are not clerics or paladins to add their character level to checks involving religion and religious knowledge.

Knight of the Rose

This is the third and final tier of knighthood. Knights of the Rose and are expected to be the epitome of all that is honorable and good. At one time, only those of noble birth could achieve the rank of Rose Knight. However now, such a thing is not true.

Most Rose Knights will have risen through the ranks of the knighthood as a member of the knight class, though there is representation within the order of the other acceptable classes as well.
The Knightly Quest

Those wishing to join the ranks of the Knights of the Rose must achieve two class levels while maintaining good standing in the Knights of the Sword. They are then sent on a knightly quest. In accordance with the Measure, this test must be a witnessed deed that upholds the virtues of knightly good, honor and heroism. The quest has to have the following elements:

1. A journey no less than 500 miles and 30 days.

2. One test of the knights wisdom.

3. Three tests of the knights generosity.

4. Three tests of the knights compassion.

5. The restoration of something that was lost.

6. Single combat against a worthy evil opponent with victory gained while adhering to the ideals of honor and courage.

Once the quest is completed a Knight of the Sword can petition a Knightly Council to promote him to the order of the Knighthood of the Rose.
Benefits & Hindrances

A Rose Knight is subject to the same benefits and hindrances as a Sword knight with consideration given to his higher status. A Rose Knight is not required to adhere to the day of worship however.

Now this methodology I like. 8)

I'd use this to replace the knight class as a whole and let it apply to any of the more martial classes. Although, Id likely add the Knight class abilties to the descriptors.

I like the "flavor" of that as well. Yeah, when I'm feeling all better and creative again I am going to have to adapt that to Erde. I might have to re-write St. Luther a bit, though.

My icon is from Diablo. I also got the wizard casting a spell with staff, and one or two others. I don't remember where I got them, but I believe I was just googling around for icons at the time.

I want to find the one from Warcraft, the exploding goblins.

A new version of my Dragonlance document is underway! I am splitting the whole into Players Handbook and Monsters & Treasure. I also added many suggestions for roles rather than classes to deal with Knights of Solamnia and Knights of Takhisis.

Cheers,

Antonio

Just a quick note on how I am handling Knights of Solamina and Takhisis right now:

Knights of Solamnia

1) A Crown Knight is a Fighter, Knight, Paladin or Ranger who abides to all laws of the order of the crown.

2) A Sword Knight is a Crown Knight who has achieved at least two levels in the previous class, and who then dual classes (as per corrected Gary's rules), if he is not already of the given class, as a Paladin (for more martial-oriented Sword Knights) or Cleric of Kiri-Jolith (for more spiritualistic endeavors; in current DL jargon, these are called Knight Clerists).

3) A Rose Knight is a Sword Knight (or optionally a Crown Knight, for those who prefer a looser organization of the Knighthood) who has advanced at least two levels in the previous class, and who then dual-classes as a Knight (if he was not a Knight before).

This system allows a large flexibility, yet retains the flavor of the tiered organization as usually seen in novels. It also solves the problem of spellcasting Sword Knights (not all are spellcasters) and how to deal with Knights in ages when spellcasters are absent.

Knights of Takhisis

1) A Lily Knight is a Fighter, Knight, or Ranger who abides to all laws of the order of the Lily.

2) A skull Knight is a Lily Knight who has advanced at 5th level, and then dual-classes as a Cleric of Takhisis.

3) A Thorn Knight is a Lily Knight who has advanced at 5th level, and then dual-classes as a Wizard (with a preference for divination-type spells). With the favor of Takhisis, they are able to take advantage of the best improvements that the moons offer on any given day.

So, even for Knights of Takhisis the system allows for a simple implementation of ideas and concepts.

Cheers,

Antonio

Hey, could I post that on the DL Nexus?

I think you could easily similate the Knights of Solamnia with base classes. Crown Knight would probably be a knight, though fighter would also work. Sword Knights would probably be paladins, with the suborder of the Clerists being the clerics. Rose Knights would then be knights or paladins.

As far as what level you reach each order, AD&D had Sword Knight around 4th level and Crown around 5th (don't remember exact level here). D&D 3.5 has it to where Sword is available around 7th or 8th, and Rose around 9th or 10th.
