I'm planning on having the group I'm running take a short (maybe 2 or 3 day) trek through a moutain that sits atop an an anient dwarven ruin. Any suggestions on good source material to pilfer from?

They are around 4th-6th level, but I can adjust the encounters as needed.

For the use of ancient dwarf ruins, believe it or not, skyrim is a good place to search. The dwarves are long since extinct but there are many ruins, and stories, to explore which the dwarves left behind.

Seriously, game wikis for some of the better computer rpgs have some good ideas. See also the Deep Roads/Orzammar stuff for Dragon Age. The ruins don't have to be ancient either. In The Dark Eye there is an infested Dwarven brewery...

Somebody beat me to Dwarven Glory. There's also an adventure by Kim Hatsfield, author of Classic Monsters and Dark Journey. It's called Into the Darkness. A Dwarven city has become a refuge to a band of Red Caps. It was in an issue of Crusader magazine. I'm looking at my photocopied version, but I can't remember which issue.

World of Harn (Columbia Games)

Srihoz The lost dwarven city. Is it in the side of a mountain and is good stuff, but vanillas enough to make you own of it.

Not sure if there is a PDF version though.

I second this, one of the best gaming sessions my team ever has was a borrowed side quest from witcher 2 assassin of kings.

Go to the source, Norse Myths by Kevin Crossley-Holland, check out the story "The treasures of the Gods".. might make good basic information or a parallel to a lesser story for you level of PCs.

Another great idea. One of my favorite sessions was when my team had to hunt down a medusa head so they could turn the big bad to stone. Later on they had to reverse the stoning process by obtaining tears from a basalisk.
