Monster & Treasure Expanded

Just pondering some ideas here. Kind of a wish-list but wondered what you all might think:

1. Would the Trolls considering making a Monsters & Treasure Complete, that included Monsters & Treasure, Monsters & Treasure of Ahirde, and Classic Monsters, along with appropriate entries from The Black Libram of Natarus, Rune Lore, Haunted Highlands, Codex Ahirde, Of Gods & Monsters, etc. Ideally, all in alphabetical order, but would still welcome all books bound together as one.

2. In said product a picture of each monster

3. A book of Pawns - along the lines of Pathfinder Pawns for Castles & Crusades based off the Artwork already available. Color would be cool, but would welcome the art as is.

I know there are already Tokens available through Fantasy Grounds, so this might be one option, but the pawns pretty cool.

Don't forget to include M&T of the Wilderlands!

PS: I would totally buy this ...

I HIGHLY doubt that setting specific monsters book will be combined with a generic monster book as a main line product. But, that's just from what I've seen elsewhere in the industry over time...

Monsters & Treasure, Classic Monsters, and Tome of the Unclean would likely be a better combination since they are all generic monster books. Will it happen? Not likely, but it would be cool to see.

Don't forget that Monsters and Treasures of Aihrde also includes a lot of natural creatures like the wolverine that should have but weren't included in the M&T. At least those critters ought to be in some Monster Opus.

If its going to be done, I'd rather go all out and do as Metal said. I don't care if something was put out for a specific setting, at one point and time a lot of the monsters were created for a specific module back in the 1E AD&D days, and then were compiled into a monster book to be used by anyone for any setting. So give me one massive tome compiling everything. My Tome of Horrors Complete is feeling lonely in its massiveness.

Good call with the Tome of the Unclean and M&T Highlands.

Tree is right, C&C needs a Tome of Horrors size book. I think at some point, we'll see the equivalent of the Rappan Athuk, when the A-Series (A0 to A13) gets done. In the interim, a Bundle O' Monster tailored with all the Love C&C can bring would be cool.

This link from Kreider really lays it all out very well. With a few unique additions the M&T of the Wilderlands & Freeport Companion would be totally covered.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B4Nf1fU ... edit?pli=1

Some are to close approximations (e.g., the prismal eye is the C&C version of the D&D beholder, more or less), so you may not see the exact names, but it should direct you to something workable.

FWIW: I own all the monster books listed and I would STILL buy such a compilation. My preference would be with Metal and Treebore, to have an entire anthology of published C&C monsters. I don't give a whit about setting specificity. It would be nice to have a little icon or something, asterisk maybe, denoting setting specific monsters for those who cared, or perhaps in the writeup a mention of where it was originally published. I would totally buy this book for sure.

For those people thinking their Tome of Horrors is lonely, might I point you to the Swords & Wizardry Monstrosities and Adventures Dark & Deep Bestiary (AD&D style stats). I consider them both to be more useful that ToHC and both are equally considered mega tomes in the spirit of ToH. Though there is some repetition between them of course.

I'm of the opinion that I'd rather see effort put into developing new stuff, not repackaging old. But that's me, and I completely understand that I might be in the minority...

Naw, agreed. I for one would like a new setting. There are plenty of C&C monster books to hold for a little while.

I'll agree here as well. Implicit in my previous comment was that such a compilation of monsters wouldn't be so much effort as to preclude new projects. But that, regardless, I would buy such a thing. If I had the source documents and wasn't making any real source alterations, I could probably build a decent compilation document in a few days.

I'm in the other minority. ;) I'd rather see perfected / collated core products, at least before turning out yet more new products that are also in need of correcting ... I'd love a perfect PHB, a collated M&T, and everything else is just optional.

Of course, a lot of this comes down to how we use C&C. I think I'm in the group that sees it as a slightly different version of AD&D, and uses it with those settings and modules, so I pretty much just want core rules and monsters for easy module conversion. Other folks see C&C as a separate game with its own setting, adventures, etc., so they'd probably side more with the New > Reprinting Old view. And I'm sure there are lots of variations of these views as well.

I'd say easily over 80% of the modules I run are from 1E AD&D, or just after. Plus Judges Guild. I've used, maybe, 6 adventures from 2E or 3E, and about 11 adventures made by the Trolls, and played in about another 8 or so TLG adventures. The Sunday game I played in until recently, and hopefully will again come June, has been Temple of Elemental Evil.

Same here I'm all for new stuff, and like mbeacom, the assumption is this would require minimal effort (realtively speaking - as publishing is no easy effort)

+1 to S&W Monstrosities, quite a nice book. I've yet to pick up AD&D, I have the free beta version in my game PDF files, but it is something that eventually I will pick-up. The Castle of the Mad Arch Mage is a needed purchase as well.

The ADD Beastiary is 900 plus entries with just about all of them having artwork. It is a very nice monster book. I really need to have my PDF printed.
