AD&D version of the 3e sorcerer?
AD&D version of the 3e sorcerer?
I'm looking to create a C&C version of the 3e sorcerer class. But before I do, I'd be interested in seeing any AD&D sorcerer-like class. Does anyone know of a published sorcerer class for AD&D?

Colin's write-up for the Sorcerer is a good one, and use it it my campaign currently. Though only NPCs have been sorcerer's thus far.

Additonally, my thoughts about the sorcerer are that the XP progression is a bit too steep. Colin could have done this for a number of reasons. My thoughts is that the XP requirement is higher because Sorcerers by nature are a great deal rarer then Wizards and the like. To keep Sorcerers rare, maybe the XP cost was increased.
Since magic in C&C is more powerful then games like it, the XP chart could be increased such as Colin has because of the increase number of spells per day. I lean towards this reasoning for the increased XP req.
However, I would still give the Sorcerer one more "class ability" such as the automatic familiar (without needing the spell), or the ability to "unlearn" spells (I hate the unlearning concept, but it makes sorerers with poor spell selections viable again).
Possibly, sorcerers could have another class ability then these mentioned.

Sorcerors are greatly weakened by seriously reduced spell options. However, when you need firballs, magic missiles, Improved invisibility, attribute enhancements, etc... 90% of the time, the sorceror is going to be a spell powerhouse laying waste to the countryside.
Especially when they are able to convert higher level spells into fireballs when that many fireballs would be useful.
Many complain about sorcerors, but that is probably because they have DM's who meta game their world and use monsters and enemies who are immune or have spells of protection already up to minimize the sorcerors devastating power.
A Sorceror is a kick butt spell battery in 3E when the DM picks opponents fairly, not aimed at limiting the devastating power of that many spells being able to be thrown.
I know, I DMed a Sorceror up to 17th level in 3E. When their spells were good against their opponents, it was devastating. When they weren't, they felt very crippled/useless.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Yep, I would allow the choosing of Illusionist and Wizard spells for my sorcerer too.
As far as Colin's xp progression, it looks like he followed the method the Trolls did, and added 100 xp (his cost) at 1st level as a cost for spontaneous spell casting. When I did the xp using the class deconstruction sheet, it came out like Colin's for the sorcerer.
Note that Colin's sorcerer progresses 200,000xp past 12th instead of 250,000 like the wizard, which makes the sorcerer progress faster than a wizard.

I think I will find Mr. Chapman's interpretation very useful.
I am new to C&C, only just now returning to tabletop gaming after many years of absence. I have never liked the cast it and forget it spell casting rules in any game system, even my first love, AD&D (1st Edition). I am working on a spell-point based alternative system to use with a C&C campaign that I hope to get started this spring or summer.
I do not intend to add another PC class to the game, but hope to modify the existing classes without creating any unbalance.
