Greetings! And a few questions...
Hey folks,
I've been lurking here for a while, and just decided to finally register. I purchased C&C about six months ago, though I haven't gotten the chance to run it just yet (I'm about to run a mini-campaign that wraps up all the loose ends in my ongoing D&D 3E campaign, then I am going to kick off a new C&C campaign). In any case, it pretty much looks like the perfect tabletop fantasy RPG.
So, before I get started really hashing out my campaign, I have a few questions for all you experts here. Forgive me if any of this stuff has been answered before.
- I'm planning on starting the campaign off in a modified version of the village from Assault on Blacktooth Ridge, which I'd like to place somewhere within Castle Zagyg's East Mark region, preferably nestled in some valley not terribly far from Yggsburgh, but not super-close. Got any suggestions for where it would fit the best on the map?
- Likewise, I'm looking to place the East Mark in the Judges Guild's Wilderlands campaign (preferably on the same map as the City State of the Invincible Overlord, some distance from the CSIO itself). Any good suggestions for this?
- I'm looking to incentivize clerical worship of individual deities, and I'll possibly be creating a selection of granted powers (determined by your deity's portfolio, and written in such a way that it's not tied to a specific pantheon) if such a thing doesn't already exist. Has someone already done something like this?
- What's the latest ETA on the Castle Keeper's Guide? I know it's just an optional book, but I'm eagerly looking forward to it.
- Ditto--moreso--on Castle Zagyg, Vol. 2. When is this baby hitting shelves?

Welcome to the Crusade!
Let me start off by your last questions... with all hopes, the Trolls seem to want to release both the CKG and the next installment for Castle Zagyg (which is now going to be a box set) to coincide with GenCon 2007 which falls during the month of August. Keep your fingers crossed!
Regarding the deities... no strong portfolio officially exists as of yet but if you needed a quick fix, I'd suggest possibly looking at AD&D 2nd Edition's Legend & Lore (or something along those same lines).
I do believe others have already put Blacktooth ridge in the East Mark or some similar area near Yggsburgh, but I'll let those people answer you. The same goes for the Wilderlands.

I can't answer anything that hasn't been answered, and I haven't used/looked at my WL maps for almost two years now, so I can't help you there until I pulll them back out.
But I can also welcome you to the Crusade!

Welcome Ryan.
I see 2 areas that I like for Botkinburg in the Yggsburgh environs.
The first is just north of the Richwood Forest near Bowbridge (encounter 44). Just southwest of there where it says River Highroad on the map is a bend in the River Nemo. I think that bend would be perfect for Botkinburg. And just south of the road and river is a 2 hex hilly area that you could use for the Blacktooth Ridge.
I also like the town of Scragwick up at the northeast end of the map. You could replace that town with Botkinburg and you have a river and road. And again, just south is a hilly area for the BtR.
Enjoy the game!

How many volumes is Castle Zagyg supposed to be in total? And is the GenCon-debuting boxed set just going to be Vol. 2, or more than that?
Two boxed sets of $30.00 each for the Castle itself. With lots of maps. More details on their website. Click "On the Anvil".

What did you decide, as far as placing the East Mark in the Wilderlands? Just curious.

Here's the format I'd like to see become official, which at least one person has used to write their own "specialty priests."
serleran in another thread wrote:
The cleric class, as presented in the Players Handbook is universal, generic, and oft-times, seen as a healing tank, having both attack abilities and restorative capacity. To many, in a world full of deities, each with divergent goals and worshippers, the fact that all clerics are equal is unfathomable. The desire to have uniqueness, a better-rounded pantheon, is necessary for a living campaign, one in which the setting itself has a sense of wonder, and realism. That is the goal of this document.
Unless specified otherwise, all clerics, regardless of faith, share the same abilities, as presented in the Players Handbook. They advance at the same rate, gain the same spell selection, and utilize the same armor and weapon proficiencies. However, every deity which follows alters some aspect of the cleric class, in some cases, somewhat dramatically; if this is the case, and a new progression or methodology is required, it is noted. In general, clerics of the same race will also share similarities, as do their deities.
When creating a cleric character, the player selects race as normal, and then assigns Primes, following the guidelines as given in the rules; however, all clerics must have Wisdom as a class Prime, so this is an assumed given, and is not mentioned in the detailed descriptions. A characters race and the selection of additional Primes, affects which deity is available. Note, this is not to say that a character that does not match the required Primes cannot worship the deity, but instead, implies that the character is not granted the special privileges of having met the requirements. In most cases, more than one possibility exists, allowing the player to select a deity befitting the character concept. Additionally, all such permutations have a descriptive name, such as Hammerhand, which is meant only to serve as a means to identify each of the variations in shorter form; Castle Keepers are encouraged to alter and add to meet their needs.
All faiths are presented in the following format, arranged by race; within each race, each is listed in order of attribute combination, so that Strength precedes Charisma:
Name: This is the name of the faith.
Primes: The Primes required to be considered a devoted, and blessed, follower, gaining all relevant benefits, and hindrances.
Alignment: Represents the alignment of the deity, and the most common among followers; variation is allowed, as noted.
Weapons: Weapons allowed to the cleric, all of which are considered proficient.
Armor: Armor allowed to the cleric; this does not impact a clerics spellcasting abilities unless otherwise indicated.
Modifications: Any change to abilities, such as removal, or granting, as well as experience adjustment is presented.
Symbol: A description of the holy symbol, and its construction, used by the faith.
Vestment: The religious clothing worn by the clergy.
Rites: Lists and describes the rites and rituals a cleric is expected, and allowed, to perform; failure has repercussions.
Temples: Details where, and how, the religious structures are built; also, describes the general feel of such structures.
Roleplaying Notes: Ideas and guidelines for roleplaying a member of the faith.
Ryan greatings & good luck with the finishing of the 3.e game. I can't add any info for your questions but it sounds like most of the questions have been answered already any way.
Serl good format! Copying & pasting to my long list of notes as I type!
