Anyone have/use the Bestiary from Joe Bloch's AD&D?

Post by Warunsun »

Greetings.

Anyone here have or use the Bestiary from Joe Bloch's Adventurers Dark and Deep 1e clone? If so I was wondering how much utility you gained from it for Castles & Crusades or even fifth edition D&D. I imagine that a lot of the monsters will be duplicated from M&T and CM but it claims to have 900 monsters in one book with over 100 new ones.

Thanks.

I have it and use it occasionally. It has a lot of over lap with any monster book but there are some new monsters and the way it is laid out is very useful. If you like monsters, it's a good one to have.

I have it. For some reason I have two copies. I only use it when I run Adventures Dark and Deep though; the C&C monster books cover nearly all of my needs now, and if they don't I look them up online or in one of my AD&D books.

I don't know how complete it is; on one hand it has Flumphs but on the other, no Thouls.

BTW, if my C&C books all turned to dust I'd probably run Adventures Dark and Deep. I think it's great. A little crunchier than C&C but clearer than AD&D 1e.

These days, and since a while, I prefer to make my own creatures. I find it more liberating even if they're "just another re-skinned orc." At least it was "my re-skinned orc." And that makes it worthwhile.
