Was the backgrond map on the 1st and 2nd PHB covers originally designed to be the official setting of C&C?

I think it is a map of the Cradle of the World map from Erde.

Yes, sir. It is the Aihrde/Erde.
LD's C&C creations - CL Checker, a witch class, the half-ogre, skills, and 0-level rules
