You may choose up to four.

Gnome and various monstrous humanoids, especially goblins and kobolds. Even more so because they all hate each other.

Human, dwarves, gnomes, and halflings for me. I like elves alright, but never to the point of fandom. For some reason, I never warmed up to the half-races, having only played one once ever, and not until a recent PF game (where I played a half-elf sorcerer).

I rarely if ever play humans ~ can't stand 'em. Boring, egotistical, arrogant and stupid!

I love that Halflings are tied with elves, but there is NO way a stumpy bearded thing like a dwarf should be beating elves ... it just isn't right !

I chose half-elves, elves, humans and half-orcs. I have a soft spot for the loner, misunderstood types. It resonates with me.

Gnomes are 2000% better with Of Gods and Monsters.

I'm trying to figure out if that's a good thing or a bad thing.Aergraith wrote:Gnomes are 2000% better with Of Gods and Monsters.

I like Gnomes. I prefer the more classic burrowing or mountain gnome to the more recent tinkerer/engineer version, who seem to be an excuse to bring clockwork automatons and other technology into the game. I know, OD&D had robots. Still, if I see one more goggled and aproned gnome inventor riding a steam powered badger and wielding some sort of rube goldberg inspired scoped firearm, well... I guess I'll grump about it.

I'm not a fan of gnomes, but I completely agree with you on that my friend!

I think I agree with you there. Dragonlance introduced the notion of the tinker/engineer, if I'm remembering correctly, but I still think they held their identity well until they were further popularized as mechanical experts in WoW. The only thing I will say is that by attaching this aspect to gnomes, it gave them a bit more identity as a race. Whether I agree with or like it is another story. But I think it upped their popularity in recent years.Aergraith wrote:I like Gnomes. I view gnomes as a cross between dwarves and elves. Especially gnomes from 3.x and above (including C&C), but I'm not sure why.Lord Dynel wrote:I think I agree with you there. Re: What are your favorite C&C races?
I think that 3.x was the point where they took a more pronounced direction away from being the cousins of dwarves to being fey-like creatures. If that paradigm existed before, I never really noticed it. So, yeah, I can see that, too.Rigon wrote: I view gnomes as a cross between dwarves and elves. Re: What are your favorite C&C races?
Between Gully Dwarves and Tinker Gnomes, I sometimes think Weis and Hickman had it out for dwarves and gnomes. Heck, even in the Deathgate Cycle, there was a race of debased dwarves.
The problem with gnomes was that over the years they had so many identities layered over each other. Forest fey, trickster illusionists, charming bards, steampunk tinkerers. It all became a muddle. I like gnomes, but you need to pick one of those and stick with it.
