I've been wondering if TLG discarded the excellent artwork from the original as they unfortunately did with the reprinting of The Lost City of Gaxmoor.

Nice Slimy, it was really cool of the Trolls to put together a B&W version for you.

It seems that many of the pieces in the original have made it into the new Codex, in color of course.

Lots of art in the new Codex comes from the previous Codex of Erde, Of Gods & Monsters, various module covers, etc.

Here is what I could piece together, there are a few images that I think are new to this product but these are the ones that I found in other products, some now in color:

pg. 16 = pg. 14 (Of Gods & Monsters)
pg. 34 = pg. 11 (Of Gods & Monsters)
pg. 40 = pg. 17 (Codex of Erde)
pg. 50 = pg. 16 (Of Gods & Monsters)
pg. 54 = pg. 8 (Of Gods & Monsters)
pg. 57 = Cover art of the Folio
pg. 68 = pg. 25 (Codex of Erde)
pg. 75 = pg. 12 (Of Gods & Monsters)
pg. 81 = pg. 16 (Of Gods & Monsters)
pg. 85 = Back cover art of M&T 1st printing, though weapon in hand is modified
pg. 87 = pg. 9 (Of Gods & Monsters)
pg. 92 = pg. 40 (Codex of Erde)
pg. 95 = pg. 37 (Codex of Erde)
pg. 99 = pg. 47 (Codex of Erde)
pg. 100 = pg. 44 (Codex of Erde)
pg. 103 = pg. 242 (Codex of Erde, though modified)
pg. 105 = pg. 50 (Codex of Erde)
pg. 106= pg. 51 (Codex of Erde)
pg. 125 = pg. 10 (Of Gods & Monsters)
pg. 128 = pg. 13 (Of Gods & Monsters)
pg. 141 = Cover art of The Mortality of Green
pg. 145 = Cover art of Falls the Divide module
pg. 165 = Cover art of upcoming Aufstrag module?
pg. 183 = pg. 72 (Codex of Erde)
pg. 185 = Cover art of Lost City of Gaxmoor C&C version
pg. 209 = Cover art of Lejendary Adventure module "The Rock"
pg. 221 = Cover art of Heart of Glass module
pg. 225 = Cover art of Rune Lore
pg. 238 = Cover art of Shades of Mist module
pg. 252 = Cover art of Upon the Powder River module and others
pg. 264 = pg. 143 (Codex of Erde, modified)
pg. 284 = Cover art of After Winter Dark - A Campaign Setting (© 2000)

That's excellent, Kayo!

Thanks very much for posting.

Very interesting . . . we know the Trolls recycle mucho of the artwork, but sometimes it's OK if the art is good.

Hmm, slimy needs to get the color version so he can compare and contrast - color vs. b&w artwork! ;)

YW guys, yeah the artwork is very good and they used some choice pieces, really evocative of Aihrde and I can see why they did it.

And while I do like the B&W art of the originals, the color versions of the Codex of Erde pieces are awesome, love the use of color in those. Not sure if those were originally in color or put to color for the new Codex.

Well, I was about to post and say that I might have to buy a copy. And then I went to TLGs product site and the price is $50!!

NOT! Are you kidding me?

For those of us that paid less for the original, no amount of reworking or reusing old artwork is worth that kind of cash.

Wow, I'm stunned!

Rhu walks away shaking his head . . .

It is a bit much to ask, especially for people that have already bought the Codex of Erde and the Folio. Not so bad for people just getting into the setting as a starting point, but yeah, the price is a bit steep.

Indeed, and it's Noblenight Games who are not known for cheap pricing! :)

I already have the d20 Codex and map, so I don't really need the new version. I think I asked this a while ago when the Folio came out, but would the C&C Folio and d20 Codex be enough to use the setting with Castles & Crusades?

Thats the D20 version, not the new full color version.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Plus I should point out the new Codex is MUCH better, with a LOT of expanded material, better writing, a lot more details of the gods, and so on. Its a full color 288 page book, with a pull out map in the back, and is well worth it, in my opinion. Even if you are like me and own every single previous version. This is the definitive book, finally.

Plus you can always keep an eye on the "Damaged" section of the TLG store and get one for $25, if they ever find more that are considered damaged. Heck, I got all 3 Advanced Adventure Leatherette's via the damaged section for $45.72, thats with shipping. So keep your eyes open, and be ready to pounce.

Yep, been doing it for 11 years with the Erde d20 version! :D

The Codex of Erde is a great sourcebook and I'm very happy to have it in my collection. And for that price and condition (SW), you can't beat that deal.

The new Codex is pricey but the production value is much higher and I can see why it's their most expensive book yet (?).
