Wish question

Post by dualj »

Why is wish a wizard spell and not an illusionist spell? I thought Illusionists where masters of reality manipulation.

Illusionists have a spell similar to Limited Wish named Distort Reality. If you feel they should gain access to Wish as well, just make it so.

Wish is counter to the purpose of an illusionist, which is to manipulate the perception of reality... and not reality itself. Their higher level spells have quasi-real effects, and they can kill, but that is more a subjective result from the target than of the illusionist's ability to affect the real.

Every class doesn't have the same end-results. Druids don't get the same spells clerics have. Wizards and illusionists are different... wholly different.

If you want them to have a wish-like effect, I'd just use their AD&D version, but don't have a problem with C&C illusionist's lacking it.

I simply save myself the hassle and disallow wishes, limited wishes, distort reality/alter reality, and miracles. Unless of course, the delvers find that ultra rare ring of wishes or whatever that actually hasn't been used.

*smiles* An illusionist version of wish could be fun though. The recipient could suffer through the illusion of his wish being granted.

Ooh...and that might be fun too.
Delver: I wish I could fly.
Illusionist: Your wish is granted. (Properly phrases and casts the "wish").
Delver: Attempts to fly off a cliff, only to fly downward and smack into the ground 200 feet below (210d6 falling damage, average of 735 points).
Illusionist: Sings "I Believe I Can Fly" as the delver falls to ground.

One of the things I love most about C&C falling damage: it doesn't get capped.

Now that's what I call fall damage. Any more dice and I might have thought you confused the dragon ball z rpg with C&C. A fake wish would be pretty cruel though lol.
