[de-lurk]
I need some help finding one of two things for a low-level C&C game, either 1) a spell that allows the caster to completely control the actions of their target/victim, or 2) a monster that can 'possess' a victim, again controlling their actions. In either case, it would be preferable if the victim does not remember what happened while they were controlled/possessed.
I looked through my C&C PHB today, but didn't really see anything that quite fit what I was looking for. Perhaps there is something in 1st or 2nd ed AD&D that would fit the bill (I know, I know, I could just make something up for the scenario, but I would prefer to use something that is already a part of C&C/D&D, so the players can have some idea what they're up against).
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give...

I would just make something up, such as a potion that only requires a few drops in a drink to make something very susceptible to a hypnotic suggestion, or something like that.
As for a monster, I would just taking some physically weak (like a kobold, or a brownie), rename and redescribe it, and give it one power that you need to advance your plot.
What, you've never heard of a Spriggyn before? It's a wee gray skinned beasty with sharpened teeth and big eyes, like a cross between a hairless cat and an evil leprechaun that controls its victims with those big googly hypnotic eyes. This one carried around a spray bottle filled with Lethe Potion; a brief misting makes you forget the last five minutes.

The latest Dragon details the Handlingers from Miville's Perdido Street Station. I don't have the stats near me (I'm at work), but they fit the bill from what I read in the book.
I also had a C&C style "puppeter" monster for my 3.5 Eberron game. I gave it Small size (it hid by hugging onto someone's back), a move of 50, a Str. of 17 to resist anyone who tried to pry it off a victim.
Once attached it took a Will DC 15 savings throw to avoid being totally dominated by the critter. If you hit the critter while it was attached the victim got the damage along with a Will save not to be stunned (DC19) By itself, it had AC 15 and HP 10. It's "attack" was to attach to you with a +10 attack.
So essentially something that was very nasty if the PC ever got their guard down, but a total wimp in any real combat.
It worked perfectly. Making them a servent race to mind flayers was probably the final touch to what some players thought was the best mini-campaign they had played in years.

Thanks for the feedback.
Charm person, suggestion, hypmotism, etc. isn't quite what I'm looking for. What I need is something that can have a friendly NPC 'wake up' with a mace in their hands, an innocent on the floor with a crushed skull, and absolutely no idea of what just happened. In other words, being made to do something completely against their nature, and no memory of it afterwards. (I'll need to look up Dominate to see how that particular spell works)
Fleshcrawler - I need the possessed NPC alive afterwards, so that the PCs can clear her name, and get her freed from prison.
I prefer to use something already established in C&C and/or previous editions of D&D, in the interest of 'fair play' (this being something of a murder mystery, it would be ideal if after following the right clues, they can say, "Aha! This must be ____!", and that relies on the player's knowledge of how various monsters and/or spells work in a D&D-esque game... using a completely homemade monster would work against that).
I ran across the Haunt in my 2nd ed MM last night after posting; it might fit the bill, although I would probably need to tweak the scenario from it's original concept.
Against, thanks for the feedback.
(Oh, and I'm not using Psionics in this game, so that's out)

I have rules for a magical tattoo that allows complete dominance over said individual. Its not "established C&C" but it was designed specifically for the game, as part of Serleran's Secrets of Spellcraft.
I'd be interested in looking at this - okay, I admit it, I'm a sucker for magical tattoos - so where can I find the SSoS?
