C&C and Hackmaster

Post by tcabril »

Over the weekend I was going through some RPG stuff that I had in boxes from the move into my new house and I came accross my Hackmaster stuff.

If any of you don't know Hackmaster is a game that is played by the Knights of the Dinner Table in thier comic book - it basically AD&D 1st edition with some comical overtones.

In any event - since C&C is very compatible with AD&D (at least in my opininon) it would not take much to incorporate Hackmaster Materials into a C&C game. Suddenly your players are discovering the long lost +1 Spatula of Harpang (which gives back additonal +2 hit points of healing if you eat a meal cooked with it) or suddenly the NPC wielding a crossbow with +1 bolts of groin seeking is a menace to be avoided at all costs!!!

Just thought I would share - Hackmaster and C& Cwere made to go together!!!!

Yes, I would agree generally very easy to convert. Matter of fact, when converting materials over to C&C one of the first things I did was convert Keep on the Borderlands. However, I found myself using more and more elements from Hackmaster's Little Keep on the Borderlands module for the C&C adventure, instead of the tried and true original. 8)

No magical spatula's in my games though.

I don't own all the Hackmaster books, but I have used several very easily for stuff in my C&C game.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Oh yes, for anyone who wants a large list of AD&D style optional rules to add to their C&C game, Hackmaster is jam packed with 'em! Besides the KoDT theme, the Hackmaster rules are damn solid. But a simple rules lite system it is not.

I am interested in seeing any "Hack files" for C&C. I won't know if I'll use them until I see them. I am certain I'll find them interesting as a minimum, though.

I bought into hackmaster. I love the comics because they spark my need to game. Unfortunately the game itself it much too costly. I have about everything I need to play but my players are scared of trying it.

Just email me (address can be found in one of te stickied threads of this forum...) and I'll send you the file. I did not create it, but I did find it. Or, someone posted about it a while back, and I kept the stuff.

No worries about your PC's being afraid to buy the books - I have everything that was ever produced for Hackmaster and the less the PC's have the better!!!

Most of the books are GM Proprietory information only, anyway

I just sent you an email Serleran. I didn't think about this till later but is it the CastleHack file from here? http://www.thalcos.com/mudpit.htm

I plan on running Hackmaster C&C style as well. I really like Hackmaster but it's just too much for a DM to run as is. I just don't have the prep time for Hackmaster and tracking everything is just too much. I've been compiling other people's house rules to try to match Hackmaster without going overboard. I'll be giving it a whirl next month with my group.

Another one from Ohio. Maybe I should have moved back to Ohio after all. Naah. I like it here in AZ way too much.

Hackmaster & C&C

Post by Simoses1 »

Hackmaster did ok here for a while, then DND3.5 came out & the intrest fell sharply as people scrambled to trade back all their DND3 books.

I managed to pick up a lot of stuff on sales for a quarter of the cost price. They are good copies of the originals, some have extra material & expanded sections.

Hackmaster was a cross between Classic first Edt AD&D & Rolemaster2. If you couldn't find any Hack, the best think would be to just down load First edt from RPGNow & the newly revamped RolemasterClassic.

For those of you who have converted the Hackmaster Monster to C&C did you recalculate the XP or did you just take it from the Hacklopedia?
